A 13-year-old with autism and an intellectual disability told a teacher his backpack would blow up, worried someone would confiscate his favorite stuffed bunny. Police arrested him and charged him with a felony. My latest with @PaigePfleger

One child held up a battery and called it a bomb. Another said he was going to nuke the school. Both were arrested under a Tennessee law. And law enforcement didn't need to determine if their threats were credible before handcuffing kids: https://t.co/nBcRmCBnxh

A state law makes threats of mass violence at school a felony, even if they’re not credible. Judges and school officials say the law unnecessarily traumatizes kids.

This is wild. So we can’t pass red flag laws. We can’t pass safe storage. We can’t ask adults to do much of anything with their guns because 2A. But we can arrest kids at will, some as young as 7. We can handcuff them. We can take them to jail. All for uttering the word “yes.”
1/ One moment, 11-year-old Junior was enjoying a family birthday at a restaurant in Chattanooga. The next, he was being handcuffed and forced into a police car. The officer cited a new state law making threats of mass violence at school a felony.

During the first six weeks of this school year in Hamilton County, police arrested 18 students. School officials labeled most of the threats as “low level” with “no evidence of motive.” Read every word of this new investigation. And listen here:

Tennessee’s Republican-controlled legislature passed a series of increasingly punitive laws aimed not only at preventing future violence but dissuading kids from making threats that disrupt school...
Over the last few months, @AliyyaSwaby and I have been investigating a TN law that makes threats of mass violence at school a felony, even for kids. We've found the law casts a wide net, entangling children in the justice system over rumors and jokes: https://t.co/nBcRmCBnxh 🧵

A Smoking Gun? This X1.8-flare had lots of radio energy at very high frequencies, easily beyond the 12 GHz range. This is where Starlink operates. A look at Down Detector statistics shows a suspiciously large number of outage reports right when the flare hits.
