@Irish_Atheist Grandfather maimed or killed two Gestapo officers when they came for his parents (he was an amateur boxer). Took his parents and two siblings and immediately left. Made it to France. Fought with the French resistance. Mid-war emigrated to USA. Helped plan D-Day as a mapper.

As I get older I’m far more impressed with optimistic “half glass full” types Takes far more courage and imagination to see the possibilities than to point out the problems When it comes to Chabad, there are many problems one can point to, many reasons why those problems will

FWIW I am the last one to davka drag Chabad through the mud. Lots of elements of Chabad to admire, but objectivity is not one of them, apparently. 1) Below 2) https://t.co/045rZIFdUS 3)
The only other place that can compete is Mincha at @Chabad 770. The lack of marble, highly polished floors, fancy tables and chairs, the pashtus and the hurried Yidden flowing in, wrapping their gartels quickly, it’s beautiful. @BluegrassRabbi

Esrogim. Matzos. Simchos. Tuition. It’s all so expensive. Thankfully, Tefillin prices have really come down.

People keep thinking it's 2020 and this will work. It won't. If you get offended by somebody's opinion, you certainly don't belong on this site, and you should know that even though they don't say so, most people in your life do not enjoy your company/perspective.

Many ppl reply with this, some jokingly, some serious, as if Chasidim have always performed their Yiddishkeit publicly. That is not the case.
@minhagim misnagdim attitude is something that a lot of the jewish world might need rn.

@BluegrassRabbi @minhagim “Whose path towards Torah was lit by public menorahs” 🥹🥹🥹 the year before we converted a Chabad father and son gave us a Hanukkiah at the natural history museum when we were visiting NYC. It was one of many things that nudged us along to becoming Jews.

@minhagim What tremendous privilege this is written with, so close to the light of your own Menorah that you are blinded to the needs of your fellow Jews. On behalf of thousands of Jews whose felt unseen, and whose path towards Torah was lit by public Menorahs, there is no greater thing.

I don’t like Menorahs in public. I don’t like thousands of Jews gathering in Midtown Manhattan. I don’t like praying in airports. This has nothing to do with a specific group of Jews. It’s about practicing religion modesty.
I’m beginning to think that people think this was directed toward Chabad. I was not specifically referring to them alone. Why can’t people objectively discuss public displays of Judaism?

I (don’t) know who needs to hear this, but you are not doing a great thing for the Jewish people because you petitioned to have a giant electrified Menorah adjacent to the Christmas tree, in front of a municipal building, or anywhere in public for that matter.

If you've ever wondered if Eivah exists - read and weep. And understand how even "regular/normal" non-Jews have come to view Jews. These are the ones you politely smile at in Home Goods. https://t.co/S6gSOF4Znp

This is my friend Joel, putting on tefilin with me as he does regularly. Since finding us via our public menorah display a year ago, he told me "Rabbi, I've been to Shul more now than I've ever been in my 81 years." He thought he was the only Jew in town.
