In fact, the government has proposed a disabled and young people's panel to support upcoming welfare reforms. This is something we've been calling for a long time. 7/8

Some media coverage ahead of yesterday's announcement has caused anxiety for lots of us. But as far as we understand, there's been no mention of increasing sanctions. 6/8

Lastly, a social security system that helps those who can’t work is so important in a fair, compassionate society. Some people with mental health problems cannot work. They're still valued members of their communities and deserve respect and support. 5/8

Secondly, we need to see genuine culture change in Job Centres, one that moves from gatekeeping to enabling support. This is only possible if we get rid of sanctions in the benefits system. Sanctions only push people with mental health problems further away from work. 4/8

Firstly, if the govt is serious about supporting people with mental health problems to be well enough to work, we need to see more mental health funding. The govt recently gave an extra £22 billion to the NHS - we want to see a fair share of that going to mental health. 3/8

Right now, many people with mental health problems who want to work aren’t getting the support they need. They're often pushed into low-quality, low-paid work before they're ready. This can worsen their mental health, so these announcements are a positive step. But we think the

🧵 Yesterday, the work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall announced reforms to reduce economic inactivity and boost employment. The govt plans to transform Job Centres into a genuine employment service, that properly supports people to get back into work. Here's our take ⬇ 1/8

We can't let this happen. We’re going to keep fighting for you to make sure mental health is treated as just as much of a priority as physical health.

The Mental Health Investment Standard is a policy the previous UK government put in place to make sure mental health services get a certain share of NHS funding when it’s allocated at a local level. It’s the only part of mental health funding that’s actually ring-fenced.

We’ll use your answers to show the government why mental health must be a priority in their new plan. The survey only takes 15 minutes. Can you help? ⬇ 4/4 https://t.co/f4gZ7DcvpX

This is a big chance for us to improve mental health services. We can make sure the 10-year plan leads to better mental health support for everyone. And we want to make sure that the government listens to you about your experiences and what you want to change. 2/4

We need your help! The UK gov is working on a new 10-year health plan for England. We want mental health to be a top priority. If you're an adult with lived experience of mental health problems, tell us how you want us to influence the plan here ⬇ 1/4 https://t.co/f4gZ7DcvpX

"It's really good to let it out. And it's really brave to be vulnerable. And people respect it." Such a beautiful response to someone opening up about their mental health 💙 Big love to Danny Jones for talking his anxiety on @imacelebrity - we know it'll help so many people.

We’re using this report to call for a cross-government mental health plan in England. One that puts prevention at its heart and has a fair share of the additional NHS funding promised. Waiting lists are too long and people need support now.
