Message I just received: "I'm 37 weeks pregnant and every single online antenatal course says 'birthing people'. It really annoys me because this is the most womanly I've ever felt."
Message sent to me: "Last year I lost twins - so I find the term “birthing parent” deeply upsetting, as I never birthed them - but I will always be their mother. The term 'mother' may be the only thing mothers of stillborn babies have left."
The number of WOMEN falling over themselves to say Lia Thomas should be allowed to compete in the women's category ASTONISHES me. I will never get over it.

Honestly can't believe that you can't see what's happening here. You're telling us that you've noticed that for hundreds of years you've neglected and overlooked women...and then...in the same breath..you are unable to name those people you've been ignoring. Why can't you see it?
Now can we talk about why kids with gender issues are overwhelmingly teen girls yet the trans activists are overwhelmingly middle aged trans identifying males, & how curious it is that these 2 groups are lumped together under the 'trans umbrella' yet have nothing in common 1/2
Last Nov I expressed the view that obstetric violence is violence against women. It happens to women 'because they are female'. The resulting pile on was horrific. I've finally decided to tell my story and shine a light on this misogynistic bullying.
The person who went through my instagram followers asking them why they were following a transphobe after I stood up for Riley Gaines has been disciplined after I complained to one of her professional bodies. I can't tell you what a breath of fresh air this feels today.
Sex is not 'assigned at birth', and anyone using this phrase is clearly demonstrating that, willingly or unwittingly, they have been ideologically captured. Sex is not 'assigned' and this doesn't happen, 'at birth'. Sex is innate, and most often observed in utero.
@talkRADIO
@thejamesmax
I don't agree with everything KJ says but my goodness, she showed you up here
@thejamesmax
. By the end of the interview it looked like you were offended, not by her views, but by the way she had utterly trounced your argument. Pathetic.
@jk_rowling
There are some areas in which biological sex matters, and rape stats are definitely one. Thank you for continuing to wake people up to these issues.
#sexmatters
My mentions are an absolute bin fire of misogyny, much of it about how old I am, how ugly I am, how stupid I am, what a terrible mother I am, how much my kids will hate me one day if they don't already, etc. Because I've objected to a 25 yr old male's parody of 'girlhood'.
Me chatting to a bloke down my local.
Him: So what's a TERF then?
Me: It's someone who thinks Eddie Izzard is most welcome to wear a dress and lipstick but that he shouldn't be using a communal shower with their teenage daughters.
Him: Well that's what most sane people think.🤷
So fuming I can barely articulate...but...what happened to all the stuff about realistic female bodies in women's marketing? How does this fit into that narrative where - it felt like - progress was being made? How should my teen daughters interpret this messaging?
#BoycottNike
Dear
@BBCNews
, sex is not 'assigned at birth'. Saying '1 in 10 people' obscures the stat. Also, the reason there is 'no known cause or cure' is undoubtedly because this is an issue that only affects women, and has been consistently overlooked.
Hopefully anyone who had any doubt that we are in the grip of a harmful ideology will have their eyes fully opened by seeing how controversial it has become for a woman to say, "I love being a woman".
#adele
Interesting seeing talk online about how extreme my position is from people defending a fully intact male taking women's swim medals and an aggressive man with a beard speaking about 'womanhood' at a herstory festival. I'm not sure I'm the one who's been radicalised.
This is a men's rights movement, fuelled by age-old misogyny. If you are still talking about 'inclusivity' and 'being kind' while you self-righteously throw decent women under the bus, you need to wake up. This is what you are supporting.

A birth worker has seen my Instagram story in support of
@Riley_Gaines_
and is now contacting midwives, doulas etc who follow me to ask them why they follow me and what their stance on transphobia is. Nobody expects the Antenatal Inquisition!
Like this tweet if you are a parent who actively seeks books for your children that are free from 'gender ideology'. I think the result may interest children's publishers.
"Replacing words like “women” and “mothers” with terms like “birth-givers” and “pregnant people” in research risks dehumanising women and would harm decades of work to improve the visibility of women in medical literature."
Do people like
@billybragg
and
@OwenJones84
genuinely see this as progressive? Because as a woman I find it more insulting than words can articulate. Do they put this down to my bigotry?
Meet NIKE WOMEN’S Newest Ambassador…a biological man.
Dylan Mulvaney is now being paid 💰by Nike Women to promote sports bras- even though he’s a man!
Another day, another company slapping all women in the face by mocking them and paying a man to take their place!

Before I switch off for the day can I just say that it wasn't me who 'made' the BBC change their language. It was the hundreds of women who got in touch with them who agreed the article obscured data on this already misunderstood and overlooked women's health issue.
Hundreds more insults and misogynist name calling today because I've said a male person advertising women's sports bras is insulting to women. To be clear I'm not asking for sympathy I'm just highlighting how angry people get with those who stand up to this. 🤷
Since the publication of her Sunday Times bestseller Trans,
@HJoyceGender
has not been invited on any ITV, Sky, or BBC radio or TV channel. Not even Woman's Hour. Why is this?
Slightly depressing watching Macy Gray talk about how she has been 'educated'. I was told to do this too & that, through my public confession & acknowledgement of my wrongdoing, I could be an example to others. This sickened me and I can't understand why anyone would participate.
Judging by the tsunami of supportive emails and letters I've received, if women learned anything from the response to my post it wasn't that they should sit down and shut up. Solidarity to the brave and fabulous
@millihill
(and I love your books, by the way!)
As predicted JK Rowling's all woman sexual violence survivors service is deemed 'transphobic'. And at the same time the claim that there is no clash of rights between women and trans women is maintained. Have you joined the dots yet?
As others are pointing out, although the NHS pages for female cancer have had all reference to women removed, the pages for prostate and testicular cancer have not. Why is this?
Lots of responses to this article have been about how fat, old, ugly, badly dressed and unshaggable these women are. How very progressive this movement is. 🙄
Such a typical pattern of behaviour. 🧵
1. Pick a successful woman
2. Accuse her of transphobia so that her entire career as she knew it is in jeopardy.
3. Watch her sinking with relish, knowing if she speaks about it she could further damage herself.

@ThePosieParker
I thought you were a fan of democracy and the people's voice etc? Aren't you a protest singer? But really you don't want everyone to have a voice just the people you agree with.
OK, time to eat my hat.
That interview was absolutely brilliant. Thank you
@Emmabarnett
for defending biological reality and the word 'woman'. The only negative thing I can think to say right now is ABOUT BLOODY TIME. 🎉

Much debate over the phrase 'birthing people'. People should be respected at individual level & called what they want IMO. But changing language & the meaning of words at population level to suit an ideology, undermines the definition of 'woman' & has an impact on women's rights.
Women are not mentioned once in this report on the lack of provision for periods at festivals. They are called 'menstruators', and 'people with periods'...but never 'women'.
And can we talk about how potentially the middle aged trans ID'd males have pushed the idea of the 'trans child' in order to pass off their fetish as something 'innate' just like being gay. I mean, since we're blasting the lid off things, let's make sure we talk about that? 2/2.
Imagine actually BELIEVING that there was a clinical need to remove young women's healthy breasts. Imagine not being able to see past your own culture or moment in history for even a shred of perspective. And then imagine getting the tax payer to fund it.
Can you actually BELIEVE how much arguing, smearing and sneering and downright lying people are prepared to do rather than just say, 'OK, let's keep the female category at parkrun for women only'.
Interesting how many people are willing to believe that Rowling, me,& literally stacks of other educated women are actually destructive hateful bigots under the surface. Like sirens who lured you in but were not what we seemed at all. Fascinating how that idea comes so naturally.
I do sometimes wonder why it's easier for some people to believe that large numbers of women are hateful bigots rather than believe that large numbers of women have a well informed and valid point.

I cannot believe feminists are attacking Helen Joyce! Have you lost your grip? She is the absolute best voice we have in this dire situation. I could not articulate in 5 hours what she can cut to the heart of in a matter of minutes. I feel depressed to see this happening.
If it's not a problem to be same-sex attracted, as people like Benjamin Cohen and Owen Jones state, then why are trans rights activists protesting a rally to assert the rights of lesbians to be same sex attracted? What am I missing here?
#lesbianstrength
@ZoeJardiniere
I don't actually care if a male person in my space is 'actually' a threat or not? I don't have to justify my boundaries by proving the threat level or lack of it. They are just my boundaries. End of.
It's the same pattern every single time a man steps into the gender conversation isn't it. Man has zero knowledge of the topic and often admits this. Many women explain it to him. Man surprised/ mystified by reaction, frames it as 'pile on' and opines about kindness. 🙄
To anyone worried about if I'm ok or getting support, I have to tell you, I've never had this much support in my life! I've lost track of the messages across platforms and emails from people saying they've got my back, but it's in the thousands. About 98% supportive. 💖
"You are not being silenced because you are in the Times" etc. FGS. I have kept quiet for 8 months because I was terrified. Even now I fear and know that I will lose work and friends and income for speaking. I spoke up to try and put a stop to this madness. 1/2
Research into trans women's experience of menopause. As a woman navigating the beginning of perimenopause this makes me as angry as a perimenopausal woman can get, which is very f***ing angry. My female biological story is rich and not to be co-opted.
As it's Mother's Day, I thought I'd tell you about the phenomena of foetomaternal microchimerism. During pregnancy, foetal cells cross the placenta and have been found in the mother even decades later. It's thought this process also happens during breastfeeding.
I've had an absolute wave of supportive messages overnight. Literally hundreds. I'll try to reply to as many as possible but just wanted to say a big thank you. x
Women are born with all the eggs they will ever have. If you are female you had all your eggs when you were in your mother's uterus. And she had all her eggs when inside her mother's uterus. Yes, this means the egg that went on to be you was once inside your gran.
@VersoBooks
This dehumanising language and reduction of women to their reproductive function no doubt formed the basis of the racism and misogyny you are trying to highlight. Shame on you for your idiotic lack of awareness.
"Sorry you felt dehumanised, ladies, but once you properly understand the issues, I think you'll find that what you felt was incorrect and therefore will no longer feel this apology was necessary."
Do you think people are watching the anger & hatred directed at Midler and Gray and thinking, "Eh? They only said don't call us birthing people or that being a woman is about more than changing body parts - surely that's fairly sensible?" I hope it's waking more people up.
Yesterday I tweeted about feeling down about the latest bullying crap from the
#bekind
birth world & I've now been given permission to say what happened. A prominent figure refused to speak at a maternity conference unless the organisers removed a quote by me from their website.
All this talk about 'dying on hills' and 'wrong sides of history' but can you imagine what our grandchildren will think when they find out we were arguing that male rapists with penises are not women? If they decide that made us terrible people I think I'm at peace with that.
I don’t think our politicians have the slightest idea how much anger is building among women from all walks of life at the attempts to threaten and intimidate them out of speaking publicly about their own rights, their own bodies and their own lives. 1/3
Do any of the people who called me toxic and violent and evil and tried to crap all over my life and career for objecting to 'birthing people' ever switch on twitter and see women being called 'womb carriers' and have some regrets? This is my 4am insomnia question btw.
Nothing could ever stop me loving each of my 3 kids, and that's one reason why I am determined to keep pushing back against this ideology that is misleading and damaging so many young people. I'm also not going to tolerate one single instance of being bullied online. Ever. Again.
Wouldn't it be great if just ONE of the all male nominees for Artist of the Year at the

actually stood up and said, no, this isn't fair...this isn't inclusivity. But men don't have a very good track record on standing up for women's rights to be included, do they?
One of the many things I still don't understand is how could ANYONE, EVER have 'puberty blockers' explained to them and think, yes, that sounds like a good idea? Even with the most BASIC awareness of teenagers or biology. Just...HOW?
The fact that there are quite high numbers of people prepared to publicly defend the term 'bodies with vaginas' shows just how far this thing has gone.
Literally they took all my quotes for an article about periods and removed all references to women, girls, and females, from them. They changed my own words. I wish I had some reach on twitter now because this is dystopian. Link is in my bio?
The question 'what is a woman?' isn't really some sort of biological gotcha. It's asking 'do you understand the complexities for women's rights if you make woman an open category that anyone can join?'. This MP is proud not to understand those complexities.
I'll save them the bother of doorstepping me.

Interestingly the TRAs have left me alone on this one. Perhaps they're busy pumping. 🍼
Meanwhile, thanks for all the lovely tweets and responses.
It feels good to counter the lunacy with something solid and clear. 💥
The organisers (for once) refused, my quote remains on their site and the person is now not speaking at their event. I'm very grateful the organisers had a spine and stood up for me. I also know this is only a small thing that's happened in the grand scheme but...it got to me.
NHS advice page does not mention women and obscures data by telling us 'losing 3 or more pregnancies in a row only affects 1 in 100 people'. But 1 in 100 people is not the same stat as 1 in 100 women. Who benefits from this lack of clarity?
Can't be bothered to reply to

or any other 🧔 about 'cancel culture'. I've lived it. I'm still living it. It's a witch hunt, attacking women with livelihoods that Bragg would think of as pocket change because they politely object to the idea that woman is a feeling.
Woman attends meeting about rape crisis centres and asks "do you not agree that women have the right to trauma informed services on a female only basis according to the protected category of sex?"
Woman is thrown out of meeting.

The breastfeeding argument is just like the parkrun argument really. A lot of people just coming out with obtuse nonsense to argue for something that shouldn't be happening in the first place. All to defend men's rights to something that clearly isn't theirs.
I hope all the birth, breastfeeding and women's health organisations who have been changing their language to erase women over the past 5 years realise that they are all COMPLICIT in the damage done to a generation of young people by an ideology that promotes puberty blockers.
Imagine being an elected politician, AND male, and tweeting 'men don't know the sex of their rape victims'. This should be career ending. But it won't be - because it's about women.
If a man threatens to rape a woman, he is unlikely to know if the victim is born a woman or a trans woman.
That behaviour should logically be seen as misogynistic. Again, this aligns with existing legislation protecting people from abuse motivated by prejudice. This is not new.
I'm sorry to say I knew about this. Students contacted me a few weeks ago and I was planning a substack about it. Absolutely extraordinary that a teacher of anatomy on a midwifery course thought that male to female transitioners could get pregnant. 🤯
