I thank the driver, thank the stranger and make a throwaway comment back to the driver about using the ramp/lowering the bus next time. Nothing overly insulting in my opinion, I use this bus very regularly and expect to be able to use it safely.

I asked him, genuinely, if he was OK. Because this is not normal or acceptable behaviour from a bus driver, regardless of what's happening onboard.
He's refusing to give anyone his name, refusing to charge me my fare, refusing to move the bus, and refusing to state a reason why

Passengers start getting off the bus and one pops their head in to say another one is due in 5 minutes, so off I hop too with my daughter. As soon as we are off the bus the driver speeds off, probably happy with himself now that his clearly bruised ego has been fed a little now.

This is when the driver decides to switch tactics and say he won't be allowing me to purchase a ticket, he won't be driving the bus any further until I leave the bus and begins shouting out to the passengers "SORRY FOLKS WE HAVE A TROUBLE MAKER HERE I NEED TO CALL THE GUARDS!"

The driver was showing no effort to either eject the ramp or make the bus go tsss tsss tsss and lower it to let me get the pram off safely. A stranger on the street kindly stepped forward and lifted the front end of the pram down and onto the street.

I have been using this bus for as long as leap cards have existed and have never had an issue with onboard top up. Shit happens. It takes 30 seconds. I never use it as an excuse to try get a free fare, but most of the kinder hearted drivers I've encountered simply wave you on.

I vaguely remember now, it was weeks ago at this stage. This driver had pulled up a good bit away from the curb and there was too big a gap to get the front wheels of the pram off the bus and onto the street without the whole thing tipping forwards into the road.

• There was no harassment of the driver on the previous occasion. It was simple customer feedback regarding a facility this driver is paid to implement in this service. There was no "goading" from my side to trigger his reaction. I am not in the habit of fighting with strangers.

I have received a reply from Bus Éireann apologising for the incident and advising me they have identified the driver and are preparing to interview and begin in house disciplinary procedures. They have assured corrective measures will be taken to ensure no reoccurrence of this.

I feel the vape is an additional and valid issue. I didn't even notice it in his hand until looking at the photo afterwards. How many times does that announcement happen on the bus? It shouldn't be anywhere near his hand, regardless of whether the bus is moving or not.
