"The defender was an inch away from getting that" is exactly the attitude we need to eliminate from the sport. An inch closer he gets the D and possibly gets his ACL as well. The D is useless as it's a foul either way (whether he gets the D or not). This is where you don't bid.

2017 Club Nationals was my 100th tournament as an observer. Basically, I'm old. Still trying to get to 1,000 games worked, but that's still almost 300 games to go. Going to have to tighten those patella straps some more

Stop calling minute foot placement travels that don't affect anything, especially when you are up by ten. If it genuinely affects your mark or sideline trap, call it. If you just want a stoppage, swallow your whistle and play defense.

I think people need to understand that dangerous does not imply intention. An unintentional dangerous bid is still dangerous. I saw plenty of blind side poachers pull up even though they can get the D, because they know they will probably hurt the receiver. I usually high 5 them.

Stopped at which wich for lunch, wearing one of my college nationals shirts. Guy there asked me if I played, to which I told him not much anymore, I mostly just officiate games. He asked me "Oh you're an observer, do you know Mitch?" :)

I've never been in a fight in my life, but after 11 games worked at nationals in this aging body, I definitely feel like I got the ever loving snot kicked out of me. But a 2 year old running into your arms and giving daddy a 1+ minute long hug makes you feel pretty dang good.

10 games on the weekend (5 Saturday was rough), up to 939 lifetime. Talent in YCCs is insane (as is the profanity). But switching between YCC games and club ultimate in consecutive hands will give you whiplash. Pro Champs in a month in Raleigh, yay no travel!

Jeff Blair, a great observer BTW, had an interesting idea at nationals after seeing the bricks marked as circled Xs. Make the circle have a 3m radius. It will look a bit silly, but it gives a great visual reference for setting up a legal cup (ignoring guarding crashers).

Commentators poo-poo'ing spiking because it damages the disc shows ignorance. I've witnessed hundreds (thousands?) of spikes and I can count on one hand how many times the disc was permanently damaged, and I'd probably have two or three fingers to leftover.
