She could have easily said I am not in favour of war but I stand with my country. Absolutely no need to insult the girl who asked a legitimate question. More power to the girl for speaking up. Massive fail on Priyanka's part.
I guess today IK found out what disappointment feels like..this is is divine justice for the way he disrespected and disappointed the Hazara as they sat with their dead in the hope that the man who promised change would help them
It isn't about how Sunita Marshall handled the question or whether Nadir Ali thinks he did a great service by asking such a question. It comes down to how and why such conversations can actually take place.
Those families went to Murree for a holiday. This country offers nothing to its people and when they try, it leads to tragedy. This is the price for unsustainable tourism and lack of development.
Sorry but most desi marriages are not marriages. They're simply a means of survival. Plus, many end up as co-parenting with v little intimacy and/or civil dialogue. Malala's nailed it as always.
So friends leaving Pakistan. A friend said she didn't want her children growing up here. Another said she wanted to go because she wanted accountability for what she's suffered. There's no lack of talent or brilliance, but the injustices & lack of opportunity hurt too much now.
Haanji. Our educated, emancipated PTI supporters. Feeling good today now that those poor folks in Saudi have been caught and most likely will suffer? Revolution complete? You let things get to this point and nothing about this entire situation is worth applauding.
What about Yazeed impresses Pakistanis?
The fact he was defeated by a woman who won via words?
Or how a hungry and thirsty 6 month old baby who couldn't cry threatened him?
Or was it the 4 year old girl who wept for a sip of water that frightened him?
THIS is your hero?
The deeper I dig in the rotten publishing industry in Pakistan, the more determined I am to set up my own publishing house no matter how small. Publishing should not be this difficult or exploitive. This is sickening.
Congratulations to our Finance & Foreign Office teams led ably by Ministers Miftah Ismail & Bilawal Bhutto for their efforts in getting the IMF program revived. It was a great team work. The Agreement with the Fund has set the stage to bring country out of economic difficulties.
The crisis in Pakistan is being framed as a struggle between former PM Imran Khan and the country’s powerful military.

The way people have been targeted and friendships and family relationships have suffered due to the PTI, sending out healing energy to all. What a terrible cultish mentality which really has led to zero constructive mental growth.
Zamindari has pretty much finished in Punjab. Rapid urbanisation has put an end to that. More and more members of traditional zamindari families are entering the formal workforce. A whole way of living coming to an end.
In Karbala, facing an enemy that far outnumbered them, Imam Hussain AS, his family & followers laid down their lives to show people the difference between Haq (right/truth) & Baatil (falsehood). Today, we are fighting for truth & patriotism against falsehood & treason.
Wow. Some are saying how sanitary pads shouldn't be given to rural women because they didn't ask for them. Edge of survival and women are STILL expected to ask for something that gives them basic, basic, basic dignity in a ghairat/hayya obsessed society.
Massive appreciation for Pakistani authors and publishers who carry on with SO much dignity in Pakistan and internationally. None of this is easy work. Look at these gems that are on offer right now:
Never has distance hurt so much. My father is alone in London and he's got covid. Hearing him wheezing and coughing on the phone is just something I can't even begin to process. Please pray he pulls through this.
This is really unfair. An attack on a woman who is looking after herself. Why don't people ever attack male politicians or men who use Botox, fillers, hair dye and more? Women as a whole age due to marriage, childbirth, child rearing, handling society and more.
I'm sorry but I've woken up on the wrong side of bed today. Thoroughly annoyed at how people are whining about how expensive small business are. Going to do a thread about some small businesses that DO NOT make massive sums of money but offer quality products.
Fascinating how PTI female supporters are attacking
@nighatdad
to fix everything. These are privileged women with military backgrounds. Attacking a woman who built everything on her own without support or an elite background speaks volumes of their pettiness.
“The written word has immense potential to change Pakistan and it is an ongoing fight. Those who fear it, need it most.”
Thank you

Sir
@DrMuradPTI
it is really sad to see what you and your family have had to endure. No one deserves to be treated in such a horrible manner. But Dr. Raas, now that you are free from the shackles of power, perhaps now you can finally reflect on your first stint in power:
Was shortlisted for a UN Women prize. Didn't win. Book was nominated for an ADA Award. Lost to BBDO ad agency but received an honourable mention.
I'm happy.
At this point my support lies with any party that gets rid of the SNC. This entire academic year has been such a farce, anyone who removes the SNC deserves to win.
Forget Chris Rock and Will Smith, why is it okay to pass a comment on how a woman looks and that too on a public forum? Leave women alone FFS! And finally, if your joke has to bounce off a woman's looks, reassess your comedy career. Better yet, retire.
Not sure why people hate dynastic politics when the entire country's social fabric and economic structure (where power really lies) is based on biradari and khaandan.
Dengue is real. Far too many cases in Lahore. Can't breathe due to smog. A whole generation of children growing up amidst all this paranoia. When did life become so frightening?
You've got to be cold blooded to gaslight
@UsmanAhmad_iam
on how Ahmadis are treated in Pakistan. There can be no 'buts' for anyone who is complicit in upholding the cruel treatment meted out to the Ahmadi community. And if you offer an excuse you're equally guilty.
It's so hard being a woman in politics today, I can't even begin to imagine what she had to face. And yet she stood tall and powerful compared to all of them. To think PTI male members believe they can compare is laughable.
Bibi Zainab (AS) was one of my first heroes in life. She spoke up against cruelty, oppression, mistreatment of humans and all things evil. Read/listen to the speech she made. One of the most powerful things you'll come across in your life. Islam exists because of her, a woman.
Rubina Saigol's demise is a painful reminder of the precious feminists we are losing. Asma Jahangir, Nigar Ahmed, Shehla Zia, Rubina Saigol. These were women of substance. Hard working, humble and yet so nurturing.
In 2017, I came up with the idea to write a book about Pakistani fashion. It was meant to be a book that looked how this industry, which is now just a market for bridal wear, came into being. Roping in two friends
@saadsarfraz
and
@gigglypundit
off we started.
Ooh my heart is fluttering over these mini totes which quote the Pakistan Constitution, Article 34 in which Women's right to participate in every life is enshrined. So fuck-a-bye anyone who says GhAr AuR ChAdOR 4 wOmEN
My mother is coming to visit. Which is lovely. But I have been up since dawn scrubbing and cleaning. Did the unthinkable too - parked the children in front of the TV with every delicious snack so they "just STAY there and don't make a mess PLEASE!"
This is embarrassing. Please stop. Take a moment to reflect and admit at least to yourself that the SNC was regressive. Targeting and exploiting children, refusing to engage with academics who offered support and advice... Just stop.
Shameless Corrupt Government has put a STOP to Single National Curriculum from 6-8 which was going to be implemented this August. Shahbaz, Zardari & Diesel want Pakistanis to have the Worst Out Dated Education in the World. Traitors to the Core.
#MarchAgainstlmportedGovt
Let me get this straight. The Margalla Hills were deliberately set on fire... For a fashion shoot? And it was no piddly campfire but a proper strip of land blazing away. People clearly misunderstanding haute here.

Just once, once I'd like to read a submission about 90s Lahore which does not feature depression, terrorism, death and mullahs. Give me Savage Garden in Zouk, U2 and kajol eyes, blue jeans and Versace knock off perfumes, slam books, fashion shows at PC.
I'm so incredibly proud to see Pakistani women in comedy.

I'm pretty inspired today so I'll share my story with comedy here. It's 2009. I've finished my postgrad from Soas and newly married. So far so good?
Really not sure how I feel about the expat Pakistani community voting in elections in Pakistan. How can you know whom to vote for when you're so removed from ground reality? Allegiance to a country is one thing, every day living in it is another...
A family member died due to covid within three days. For God's sake, wear a mask. Wear. A. Mask.
Let 2020 be the year you finally realise the value of life. Wear. A. Mask.
Can we PLEASE not describe Heer as Punjabi? She hails from the region of Jhang which is part of the Seraiki vusaib. This reinterpretation of the region as mainstream Punjab is incorrect.
Thrilled to itsy bitsy pieces as I've just signed on an author. I'm a one woman - with two kids in tow - show here but I swear to God, I'm going to try my very best to do the right thing by Pakistani writers.
Pakistan's first pop culture book? Done.
Pakistan's first non fiction poetry about mental health?
Done.
Anthology for new writing?
Done.
Pakistan's first graphic novel about mental health and marriage?
Done.
And just commissioned another
book on culture.
I cannot oppose the ban on Joyland enough. What is with Pakistanis? Why do you hate art so much? Why are you so threatened by anything different from you? Why is everything a threat to YOUR warped understanding of Islam? Why should we restrict ourselves to your thoughts?
Nabila shitting on Icchhra is one prime example of what's wrong within the fashion industry. This is the same person who tried to dictate to me who could be featured in Pakistan's first fashion book. Actually tried to rewrite history. Imagine.
Also, Ichhra for life!
Motherhood is not just biological. It is a relationship based on mutual love, care, respect and well being. Please don't reduce the role of a mother to birth only. Surrogacy if done ethically is done with the birth partner's consent and understanding.
How do those mothers feel when they get their readymade babies through surrogacy? Do they have the same feelings for the babies like the mothers who give birth to the babies?
The thing that irks me is when people tell me to shut up about the SNC is they:
1) Don't have children
2) Equate criticism of the SNC with criticism of the PTI, the PM, the mountains, the rivers...
SNC is about human rights.
Children's rights.
And I'm not shutting up.
Javed Akhtar was representing his home country. Did you really expect him to wax lyrical about Pakistan especially about a wound that clearly still festers in his home country? Cultural diplomacy can be of different shades. Time for us to check our reality.
Woke up to this gem in my child's Urdu book. This is where the battle lies. It's the curriculum. We need literature that actively counters these sick ideas planted directly into developing minds. GOOD MORNING INDEED!
Look it's simple..when you're at school, wherever you go, you represent the school. Make it to university and your work represents the standard of the university. Work for an organisation and you are a cogwheel of that system. Social media is an extension of who you are. Behave.
Shahid Zaidi of Zaidis photographers has passed away. Am so grateful I spent the summer of 2021 working with him on his biography. What a story, what a life. Was truly a privilege to be the one to document it all. May Shahid sahib rest in peace.
Everytime I tweet about Shias or Karbala, I lose followers (not that I attribute much to number of followers). So, so telling. Keep up the hate, we'll continue to keep the peace.
@sarataseer
Pakistan recognises minorities and cultural identities. Therefore the first lady's dress, although reminiscent of Arab culture, is her right. And average pakistani woman is increasingly dressing v much like her with abayas, niqabs, hijabs and so on.
SNC is revolutionising education. Within 10 years, the first batch of kids who have only studied under SNC will be entering universities.
Ehsas Program — a comprehensive conglomeration of 140 welfare initiatives — caught global attention and praise. Data driven. Focussed. Clean.
Imran Khan says he doesn't know many people who experienced life in two countries. Chalo, those who have let's say hello. And for those who are lucky enough to experience life in more than two, you can send a clown face.
This is unacceptable. Never once did you speak up when the PTI was harassing and abusing everyone including
@nighatdad
. On what basis are you calling her out? Sort yourself out
Get over your PTI hate! These are ordinary Pakistanis venting their anger at a bunch of crooks brought in thru a US regime change conspiracy abetted by the dark shadows that have also been harassing u btw! Shame on u for assuming it's only PTI that finds these crooks unacceptable
Nothing makes me prouder than seeing my female friends own their lives by buying their own homes, running their businesses, taking back control over their bodies, blazing their own paths ahead. And doing it all with such dignity and so quietly.

PLEASE give me a govt that promotes and invests in the arts, culture and literature than a government that peddles religion for political gains. Go away and rethink what you have done to this country's culture instead of stooping to this level.

Seeing videos of children delivering speeches in Parliament and welling up. Our children are SO good, so talented. How can anyone ignore how criminal it is to destroy them and cripple their progress by having a horrific curriculum (SNC)?
@betterpakistan
Good bye and good luck easing your soul. The board for the PNCA you appointed was headed by a criminal. The curriculum you set has taken our children back to the stone age. What satisfaction you glean from the damage is beyond me.
On Sunday I relinquished charge as Federal Minister for Education, Professional training culture & heritage. In the last 3 and half years I feel satisfied that I was able to contribute to Education and to heritage and culture. Inshallah I will continue to do my best for Pakistan
