Major, yes. Precedent setting, absolutely. But not at all surprising. Clearest sign of Meta bending to the new admin. $ incentives and political capital drive the business, always have.

Breaking News: Meta said it would end its fact-checking program and rely instead on Facebook and Instagram users to add notes or corrections to posts. The move is likely to please the incoming Trump administration and its conservative allies.

Ben Shabad was crowned the winner of the Jeremy Allen White lookalike contest in Chicago today. Hundreds of people showed up to judge more than 50 contestants in Humboldt Park, but there was no sighting of the real Jeremy lol.

On the eve of the election, the intelligence community says Russia continues to be the biggest foreign malign actor attempting to influence US elex. They also confirm our @scrippsnews reporting that Arizona was targeted by a Russian created/disseminated video in last few days.

Not to mention the utter hypocrisy of this after how House R's came for tech researchers and thwarted critical info sharing/collaboration under the guise of favored amplification. Where is the uproar now?

Elon disabling "Don't want to see this ad" and "Not interested" functionality for political ads 48h before Election Day is further proof of why we need laws that prevent this kind of manipulation of our information ecosystem. Stay vigilant & know where to get authoritative info.

I’m concerned by foreign adversaries’ efforts to sow mistrust in our elections, but I’m even more disappointed that public figures are using their huge platforms to spread them & other disinfo. In these final days, get your news from trusted outlets, not the chronically online.

None of the six leading AI developers have implemented adequate safety measures as they race to deploy products that can pose a large risk to the public. They must do better. From @MeganShahi and Anastasia Dodd: https://t.co/1Cv6YalY8H

In the six months since the Center for American Progress released recommendations on responsible generative AI deployment, developers and deployers have done little to shore up third-party safeguards.

“The reason these companies are limiting or removing transparency tools at such a crucial time for the information ecosystem is clear — they want to avoid accountability. Why is Congress letting them?” Keep reading @MeganShahi and more in @MarketWatch:

This week Sen. @ChrisCoons joined CAP to discuss the critical need for transparency in social media, especially ahead of U.S. elections this fall. In shutting down Crowdtangle, @Meta is taking away one of the best tools researchers and journalists have to combat misinformation.
