It's time for 'What's On Your' #MolluskMonday, brought to you by the @NaturalSciences Non-molluscan Invertebrates Collection. This is a cool shell and all, but look at the teeny weeny barnacle on it (left of center)! Aww. Let's flip it over... 𧡠1/2

A fabulous specimen for a #FantasticFriday This is one of two basket stars collected off the coast of North Carolina on 23 June 1970 by the crew of the R/V Eastward at a depth of 60 m. Formerly in the @DukeMarineLab collection, currently housed @NaturalSciences NMI Collection.

Wow. Intriguing isn't it? It would be cool if one of the authors on this study was right here in North Carolina, and could do a #LunchTimeDiscovery live talk for us on 5/3/2023. Just saying... https://t.co/dB5iNWbnp1

Scientists say one of the largest patches of pollution on the planet has become a substitute environment for dozens of species, generating questions about what this means for the ocean and the coast.

Hey, that's me! I'm going to be talking about some of the research I've been part of and how it's changing what we've long believed about coastal marine inverts! I promise there will be more than just one slide that says "they're living in the open ocean now"

Doing some experimentation on what guesstimating the number of individuals in hundreds of lots of amphipods does to a person (me). Right now I'm on the genus Colomastix and they are very small! Please help. 300? 1000? It could be anything π«

Check out this 3D model of an Antarctic marine bryozoan (genus Reteporella) that was created using photogrammetry. @mccullermi The Non-Molluscan Invertebrates team at @naturalsciences is hoping to scan a number of other specimens and make those models publicly available.

I am thrilled to announce our latest publication in @Zootaxa describing not just one, but TWO new crayfish species in North Carolina. This stems from an amazing ongoing collaboration with @NCWildlife. A huge shoutout to my coauthors Michael Perkins and TR Russ! @naturalsciences
