New preprint from the lab! We explore how a single niche signal can have two distinct effects. Check it out! Brinker regulates reciprocal outcomes of BMP signal between stem cells and differentiating cells
biorxiv.org
Drosophila male germline stem cells (GSCs) reside at the testis tip, surrounding a cluster of niche cells known as the hub. Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP) ligands secreted from the hub exert both...

In @eLife: Distinct functions of three Wnt proteins control mirror-symmetric organogenesis in the C. elegans gonad
elifesciences.org
The mirror-symmetric structure of the Caenorhabditis elegans gonad is established through the Wnt-independent function of a Frizzled protein and three Wnt proteins with distinct roles.

An RNA binding regulatory cascade controls the switch from proliferation to differentiation in the Drosophila male germ line stem cell lineage
biorxiv.org
The switch from precursor cell proliferation to onset of differentiation in adult stem cell lineages must be carefully regulated to produce sufficient progeny to maintain and repair tissues, yet...

Published: our study on a new Drosophila gene Moat shows strong polarity-based junctions allow weak myosin to promote productive apical constriction, leading to ectopic folding of ectodermal anterior midgut (ectoAMG). The ectopic folding requires Baz/Par3. https://t.co/yeg1e1Jzu2

having my paper selected for the journal club is the best thing! Thank you!
@mayuinaba0317 @ShinyaMatsuda3 @NatureComms Great work! I was surprised by the complex control of GSC behavior with high and low pMad. From a technical point of view, I am impressed that even though the background noise of Dpp::GL is present (Fig. 1D), your clever use of the "trap" construct solves this problem. So nice.
