Bitkey’s mobile app checks whether the hardware is authentic. Each Bitkey’s chip is equipped with a secret key specific to that chip prior to manufacturing – and it uses this key to prove to the app that it’s a real Bitkey. Bitkey’s mobile app checks this in the background.

Bitkey only runs authentic firmware. Bitkey’s hardware enforces a secure boot process, meaning it will only run firmware that has been cryptographically signed for Bitkey. And not even the Bitkey team can update your firmware without you unlocking your device.

Even if an attacker tampers with your hardware, your bitcoin stays secure. With Bitkey’s 2-of-3 multisig design, they’d need more than just your device to access funds. Compromising one key simply isn’t enough.
