Kenya’s power generation is mostly renewable. It’s also very small for a country of 55 million to have only a peak demand of 2.3GW. It’s expensive at $0.22, which is a large reason for so little use, and double the African continents average.
Update:.Worth noting is a new peak demand of 2,325.23 MW was recorded on 2nd July 2025. (approx 100MW growth from 17th July 2024). Energy MWh for that 2nd July supplied as follows;.Hydro 25%.Geothermal 42%.Thermal 8%.Wind 13%.Solar 3%.Imports 9%.
