A second Trump administration threatens to take the "public" out of "public health.". So many thoughtful reflections here from BUSPH faculty and students. (Opinions are mine -- not necessarily that of my employer).

I talked about my book "Anti-Scientific Americans" with @boston25, and why I'm afraid that attacks on the scientific community may make us less prepared to combat major health, environmental, and other policy challenges.

Science skeptics often co-opt the *language* of science (e.g., peer-reviewed studies) in order to debunk it. I argue that this Pseudo-Scientific Revolution sews doubt by drawing a distinction between "fake" (credentialed) and "real" (fringe) science.

Polis' views are extreme, disguised as moderate. When people choose not to vax. for *non-med.* reasons, they increase the chance that diseases mutate & infect. That's a problem for all of us; esp. those who can't vax. for med reasons. Mandates put the "public" in public health.

Because I'm already seeing this point bubble up. RFK Jr wasn't picked to lead HHS in spite of his inexperience and disdain for sci. experts. He was picked *because* of them. Anti-intellectualism is a feature, not a bug, of Trumpism.
