For months, I spoke to 3 Sudanese women about the #Sudan war. In anticipation for the 1 year mark of this devastating war, I tried to tell the story of the country through their eyes. Here is my attempt below. My long read for @AJEnglish

Since Sudan erupted into war a year ago, Hind, Noon and Yasmine have fought for themselves, for their future.

Infighting began amongst Palestinians right after the ceasefire; knives are out & people are getting called "traitors" or "mouthpieces" Guys, the genocide is NOT over. Who does this infighting serve? If the martyrdom of our loved ones doesn't unit us, then we deserve defeat!

The US has proposed a very similar set-up for South Lebanon, in which they effectively want to cement the expulsion of Palestinians and the disappearance of their towns and replace them with all the manifestations of disaster capitalism. It's clear what their priorities are.
🚨Jared Kushner, Peter Thiel & Larry Ellison are planning to turn Gaza into a haven for billionaires, with "a city of tax-free startups, with scattered server farms for cloud processing & artificial intelligence" & "factories with cheap labor" & "simple regulations" Ellison is

Fascinating interview with RSF humanitarian affairs "minister" who claims US/UN were never given approval to distribute aid to El Fasher, despite their claims. Article argues that US-led Quad effort to achieve ceasefire has all but collapsed. Sounds right.

Attacks on El Fasher have intensified since mooted aid deal last month

Biden had multiple ways to pressure Netanyahu, including by publicly blaming him for repeatedly tanking ceasefire talks. Biden *chose* to give him political cover and materiel to continue the war. No US president is as helpless as former Biden officials seem to want to pretend.
The ability to pressure Netanyahu was related to Netanyahu’s total embrace of Trump, and the complete lack of any domestic political blowback to the President for doing it. Biden did not have either of these conditions.

Every single Palestinian prisoner released has a horror story to tell: of being beaten, sleep deprived, sexually assaulted, electrocuted, starved, made to sit in the scorching heat with hands tied behind their backs and told their families were dead when they were very much alive

So that whole "SAF will demilitarise Khartoum and disband its allied militias" thing wasn't worth the paper it's written on, after all? And who are these militias fighting / getting into gun fights with now the RSF is no longer in Khartoum? Oh right. #KeepEyesOnSudan

Two strikes yesterday - one in Al-Kuma by SAF killing at least 16 civilians and one on a shelter in Al Fashir by the RSF, killing at least 53 civilians. The people of N. Darfur are experiencing a special kind of hell.
At least 16 civilians were killed in a Sudanese army drone strike on Saturday in the town of Al-Kuma, east of El Fasher in North Darfur, local community leaders said. https://t.co/ZvjXKCEqXO

Those who Killed by RSF l, are not numbers — they are families, loved ones, and homes whose lives have been taken by this senseless war. Targeting civilians is a war crime that must not be tolerated.@US_SrAdvisorAF @UN_HRC @hrw @UNHumanRights @MoOsman88 @KholoodKhair @Lamamra_UN

I doubt it's over, but if it is winding down, what we can definitively say is that this genocide defeated the possibility of liberal universalism and revealed most western states as barbaric crusaders. It also ended the possibility of Israel ever being normalised.

Almost 9 months ago, our press colleague Anas Al-Sharif removed his press vest following the announcement of a ceasefire. And then we saw what happened next. May we ensure the bombs actually end this time. I wish he, and so many more, were here with us.
