At last night’s violin concert, a man wearing a surgical mask kept coughing an horrendous cough from deep in the lungs with a resonating chest sound. During interval he sat in the foyer coughing loudly. By which stage I’d had enough & approached him.

In the middle of a pandemic, all bets are off. He was angry because he got caught out and that’s why he did not stay for second half. If someone asked me the same question, and I didn’t have a contagious disease, I’d tell them exactly that & be understanding of their concern.

Girlfriend just told me a horrific story about her older overseas friend who travelled to Australia on a major cruise liner. You know what I’m about to say… caught covid, pneumonia & had minor heart attack & other complications. Has been stuck in Australia for almost two months.

I knew it was airborne because of the rapid spread in China. Told everyone who’d listen to wear a mask. Was given the craziest looks when I wore an N95 in Jan/Feb ‘20 (& this was in Singapore too!). Luckily we had them on hand because of the haze. Bad messaging is fault of WHO.

My friend who was recently exposed along with her young daughter (so far testing negative) just told me their primary school on the NSW Central Coast said that students can attend if they’re positive but not showing symptoms.

Had to go for an urgent hospital appt today (all okay thankfully). My specialist (in a surgical mask) commented on Miss 7's & my Flo Masks & remarked that we must think we're facing an apocalypse. He's not wrong. I do! As an aside, all hospital staff were in surgical masks.

I wish everyone could wear a respirator but it’s just always practical. My mother can’t as she suffers crippling arthritis & can’t lift her shoulders but she can cope with putting on ear loops. She wears a KN95 & so far she’s remained covid free despite a confirmed exposure.

For those worried about "socialisation", if you engage, see friends outdoors whilst masked, zoom playdates etc. I don't see a problem. Children need a loving & supportive family first & foremost in any case. What they don't need is exposure to a potential life threatening virus.

I did exactly that and got yelled at by two officers. One bloke was looking down & writing after asking me to remove my mask. I could no longer hold my breath so replaced said mask & was shouted at to take it off and keep it off.

All I can suggest is that you wear the best mask you can afford (take a look at Flomask or similar) & refuse to take it off. Only eat and drink outdoors. And whilst doing that, look for a new role where working from home is acceptable (not an easy task I know).

2. At children's parties (I've experienced the horror a party induced flu & swear never again)
