I’m especially grateful to have witnessed at close quarters, through some of the toughest times in our history, and in every corner of our state, the spirit of service and selflessness that defines the people of NSW today.

After one of the longer weeks I’ve had in politics, what I feel more than anything is an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Gratitude to have served as a Minister, as Treasurer, and as Premier of NSW. Gratitude for the trust placed in us to imagine a better future and to build it.

Stephen will be dearly missed, and we wish his wife Sue and his family and friends every comfort at this difficult time.

Stephen leaves a proud and lasting legacy: the Manning Base Hospital redevelopment, new ambulance stations at Forster and Old Bar and a commitment to deliver a public hospital for the Forster community, a credit to the man and to his dedication to the people of Myall Lakes.
