“Once I learned that my family was on the only reservation with silos, we planned a trip over spring break to go there and interview people,” Weber said. “The story isn’t just about the missiles, it’s about the reservation itself & the people who live with the missiles.”.

“I asked if she knew about the missiles on the reservation,” Weber said. “She had, but no one told me. My grandma Deborah lives out there, and I used to visit when I was a kid and dance in powwows.”. Weber started helping the researchers connect with tribal leaders.

🧵Ella Weber was in undergrad when an advisor told her about research related to nuclear weapons spread across the middle of the country — including near her home area in Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. This was the first she'd heard of the weapons. So she called her mom.
