Air quality hit "unhealthy" levels across the Maldives this week. Visibility dropped to 1.5km. The annual haze is back – and we investigated what's actually happening. What we found: - 67% of dry season days exceed WHO air quality guidelines, according to MNU research. 90% of

In recent weeks we have seen a raise in air pollutant level, especially Particulate Matter(PM) 2.5 over the Maldives. Resulting in public health advisories released by the authorities. The below is an article, in which I have tried to capture the role of air pollution in

We are deeply alarmed by the latest plans to reclaim additional mangrove and wetland areas at Moolekede Fishimathi in Addu. This new proposal is entirely separate from the previously EIA-approved road project. It involves a different road connection that directly encroaches into

These resilient trees which even survived 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami are now being pulled off to make new tar roads. A picture shared on an FB post by Maleeh. What’s their crime. If we don’t have brains to save these trees which stood by us even in calamities, we are doomed!

@ahmedmauruf @Dhaurunews @maeed We have materials and technology now. We don’t have to build a water villa, but a resilient home! This rhetoric is what tourism tycoons spread to stop such developments which may lose their appeal.

Decentralised maldives is key to tourism prosperity, fisheries prosperity, healthcare prosperity, and educational prosperity. ⭐️
Maldivians have long migrated in pursuit of human development, sometimes by choice, but often out of necessity. Decades of centralization and policies promoting a “Greater Malé” mega-urban settlement have intensified migration to the capital. https://t.co/JwcX2IRSHb

I dont think population consolidation is bad for the #Maldives. We must design/develop climate resilient islands promoting voluntary migration before climate-induced displacement hits us. But consolidating & concentrating to a mega urban settlement in greater male’ not a solution
