@CBCOntarioToday @IDA_Ontario It cost us over $10,000 to help my daughter read at grade level. Today she’s starting grade 8 at grade level. Now she only needs to see a tutor weekly - a retired teacher. Having #SOR in schools will help so many kids. @IDA_Ontario #Onted

In a world of corporate billionaires, there’s a Canadian ice cream company that’s been doing the opposite. They look after employees, donate to the community, and even provide housing to refugees. This is how they became a national icon - by doing the right thing. A Goodable🧵

Seniority and performance should not be the only reasons you promote someone to lead a team. You can recognize loyal, high-performing employees in many ways. Making them manage others is only one of them, and often the worst. Your people leaders should want to lead people.

My family lived this nightmare when my 6-year-old daughter was rushed to hospital barely breathing last week. Now that she's out of hospital and my cortisol levels are down a bit, I can share our experience and some questions I'm asking. https://t.co/7ct4QJwDVV

Stop it, please, #onpoli media. Parents aren't "caught in the middle" between education workers & the government. We're not frustrated at the strike. We're angry at the government for forcing education workers to strike by denying them decent wages & working conditions. (1/?)

Here’s a hard reality that I’ve seen in all of our data this past year: The number one reason people are leaving their jobs is to find new opportunities that are better suited to their well-being. If organizations aren’t caring about their staff, their staff will leave. Period.

What is one of the most worrying employee well-being trends right now? I'd say the fact that the people that are usually considered those hyper-reliable top performers are burning out too. They usually prop their teams up when times are tough, but now they're depleted too.

It's six AM. I'm still in bed and my eyes are barely open. I reach for my phone. I check my email. Last night's sign out just arrived. I scan last the names I don't recognize, looking for one in particular... 🧵

I know everyone copes with anxiety in different ways but damn I wish “lashing out about covid protocols” wasn’t one of them. Anyway if you’re the safety Scrooge in your family too, I see you. We’re doing the right thing.

Currently in Canada we have: 1. Very real & understandable pandemic fatigue 2. A rapidly growing Omicron wave 3. Limited healthcare personnel/resources This shitty pandemic hat-trick will make for a difficult Dec/Jan, but can be blunted with vaccines/masks/rapid tests/policy.

Expecting everyone to be available at all times is a recipe for burnout. Unless there's a crisis, being a good colleague isn't about responding rapidly. It's about clarity and reliability. Clarity is communicating your priorities. Reliability is delivering on your commitments.

Today, Ontario’s vaccine passport system takes effect, meaning that an unvaccinated person will be denied entry to restaurants, bars & other non-essential businesses. But an unvaccinated person can still work in a hospital or LTC facility. Isn't this ludicrous?

The variation in the use of rapid antigen tests across and within countries is truly remarkable. I would love it if my unvaccinated children and all of their classmates took one of these every couple of days. Wouldn’t you?

In UK, any household can get a **7-pack** of rapid tests every day for free… An incredible example of what taking a true public health approach with regard to #COVID19 testing looks like.
