I wrote something about the
@FMG_YFoftheYear
contest.
It's already generated plenty of discussion.
What do you think farming will look like in 2040 when most of today's contestants will only be aged in their 40s?
#agchatnz
Twitter, he is just perfect.
Finn arrived literally into my hands with just 4 pushes at 3:03am on the 13th of May following 18 hours (!!!) of labour contractions.
Everyone is super happy and healthy.
Finn has filled a hole in our hearts we didn’t even know existed 🥰🥰
Off to bed for the last time as someone with zero parental responsibility 😂
Tomorrow marks the pinnacle of the endlessly frustrating and demoralising process to adopt our Finn: our day in family court for the adoption.
By lunchtime tomorrow I will “officially” be a dad 🥰🥰🥰
Reading the replies and unsolicited DMs has reminded me how much hate there is in this world, and how there are people who don’t want us and baby Finn to succeed in this world.
Fear not, it’s all water off a ducks back for us.
But it won’t always be for Finn as he grows. 1/
Thank you so much for all of the kind words and wishes from all of my lovely Twitter tribe who are joining us on this incredible journey.
Finn is surrounded by more love than could ever measured.
You amazing people have also reminded me of how much love exists.
A “final adoption order in the first instance” was granted today by Judge Alayne Wills in Tokoroa District Court 🥹
It was wonderful to bring so much love into the Family Court and have our family legally recognised.
Thank you so much for all of your love, support & wishes 🥰
A comment about Finn’s birth mum: her privacy is important to all of us involved.
She will be a huge part of our lives forever. She chose us just as much as we chose her.
She is a wonderful soul and a constant part of our lives.
Commercial surrogacy is illegal in NZ.
Only a couple of hours until we hit Wellington for the birth of our son tomorrow.
Hit me with questions about surrogacy, gays having a baby, the birth, whatever!
Anything you’ve wanted to know now is your chance haha
Honestly I'm a mess.
The most significant speech ever given by a Muslim Imam in NZ, if not around the world, broadcast live across the country. He had every right to be angry and sad beyond measure.
Instead all he could do was repeatedly say thank you to New Zealand.
😢❤️🖤
Yesterday a woman laughed at me for scanning in at a cafe with my Covid tracer app.
I said nothing, but the look of death I gave her - and held for an uncomfortably long time - forced her to apologise.
I still said nothing.
I'm comforted knowing I have that power.
When I made a choice to be gay…
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Don’t worry lovely friends I don’t take any of this to heart at all.
I know there’s more love in my house than there ever was for any of the haters.
Important to remember this exists tho!
@m_herbert
When you made a choice to be gay, you made a choice to not be a parent and have children. That was your choice. You should’ve stuck with it.
Finn’s tummy mummy has been staying with us for the last few days.
She’s recovering well, still has another month off work and is feeling exactly how she wants to be feeling with how it’s all been… she liked a cuddle but when Finn cried she was like nah go see your dads 😂🥰
Being a new parent shouldn’t stop you from working if that’s what you want to do, and milking cows is no exception.
Sometimes you just need to get a bit creative!
One of my team is a new single mum and I’m really proud to be a small part of “the village” helping with bub 😍😍
The past couple of days I’ve done essential jobs only and then spent most of the day in bed.
I’m not ok at the moment.
Not enough farmers talk about this.
The pressure we put on ourselves can be huge. The support we allow ourselves to seek can often be none.
It’s ok to not be ok
Harry Styles blew my expectations out of the water in Auckland last night.
He’s a legit superstar with proper stage presence and put on one hell of a good show.
I employ a single mother of a baby.
The govt make it SO freaking hard. The entire system is geared towards her being unemployed, on the benefit.
She WANTS to work. She WANTS to build a future for her kid that doesn't involve raising him on the benefit.
I think it's time to take a mental health break from Twitter for a week or two.
I'm struggling to rise above the crap, and the disgraceful sunken bovine hell-hole has pushed me over the edge.
Here's a happy pic of a sick calf who I've nursed back to health.
Bye for now 🙋♂️
Everyday I send my cows to fresh grass.
They do their bit by turning the best grass in the world into the best milk in the world.
This milk becomes chocolate and coffee and cheese and ice cream, but it also becomes asthma inhalers and medicines.
Pretty cool, don’t you think?!
Israel Folau signed a deal with an English league club.
A rival club immediately posted that their match against Folau will be on Pride Day, that they'll be wearing rainbow socks and laces, and that the 🏳️🌈 community is welcome to become part of the day.
The best part is that the crossing was looking a bit faded and sad, but thanks to the work of the group of losers at Destiny Church, it is now all fresh and bright and EXTRA GAY
🚨BREAKING🚨
Police have arrested a number of protesters at Gisborne’s rainbow pedestrian crossing after members of Destiny Church attempted to take further protest action at 4pm in what appears to be another attempt to paint over the now restored crossing again.
More to come…
We had a great flight. Finn made friends with everyone and was having cuddles with all the flight attendants.
Two gays, a baby and carry-on only was a great success haha.
Just switched off the shed for the last time ever.
So proud of the cows this season having smashed the farm record, getting to approx 97,600kgms or 1500kgms/ha.
The shed is being decommissioned and 42078 will never supply again, so that's their record forever ❤️
Finn with his great grandma. So special.
She had me for the first few months of my life when my mum was sick in hospital, so we’ve always had a special bond.
Having her hold my son is just too much 🥹🥹🥹
This story is phenomenal.
James Cameron is learning the hard way that NZ farmers already know what they're doing.
Organic veggie production has stopped, the veg shop he opened has closed and his farm is now grazing... Wait for it... DAIRY HEIFERS
If you’re struggling to imagine what a homosexual farmer attending Elton John in torrential rain looks like, here it is.
No such smiles after they called it off but fingers, toes and balls crossed he will make it up…
Have many of you ever taken a step "backwards" in your career to consciously chase more balance in your life and be able to do some things that will make you happy?
How did it go?
Did people think you were crazy?
Were they right or did you prove them wrong?
Thank you to
@Fonterra
for helping me share my experience as a gay dairy farmer in Aotearoa NZ.
It's an important part of who I am and I hope that rural communities can be as welcoming to others as they have to me.
🏳️🌈🐮💕
5 months of being a dad to Sir Chunkalot 😳
One day I’m sure I’ll go back to thinking other things matter, but lately there simply is nothing else except Finn. 🥰🥰
Awesome.
@jacindaardern
asked me all about Sharemilking and the
@NZDairyAwards
(had my jacket on) and we talked about how cool it is to own your own cows and that I work for a Trust who gives out educational grants for studying agriculture. 🤗
Just said goodbye to my mum over video chat as she goes into hospital for a 10 hour cancer removal operation tomorrow.
Because of lockdown in Sydney, she has to go into the hospital entirely alone.
She won't have any family around her when she wakes up.
💔😭😭😭
Some exciting personal news... My boyf Aaron and I have started something new!
His future full time gig, and I'll help when it suits around farming, is our new business Thirst & Hunger.
This food, coffee and bar caravan will be at markets, events and private functions.
NZ is no longer the country I moved to, and this government isn't the one I voted for.
I voted for Labour the previous 2 elections. The last one in particular was a very easy choice.
Jacinda or Judith in charge at that stage of the pandemic was a very easy choice. 1/
Got some disappointing news this morning, one step forward two steps back etc etc.
So to cheer myself up I'm going to focus on something I'm really proud of. Our first line of heifers born under our herd code, that we've had full control over since day one... 100% incalf!!!
Quite a significant shift in PR this morning from
@DairyNZ
Chair Jim Van Der Poel.
Personally I think it's the right move to call out any groups criticising but not actually helping to offer solutions.
Many won't approve but ridiculous graphic GS posted was straight up lies.
This morning I’ve hit town to just try and be a dad doing dad things.
Truth is before 5am there was tears and an emotional meltdown… and both Finn and Aaron were fast asleep…
I’ve been feeling the weight of having my family, 5 employees and 3 farm owners all reliant on me.
I feel like I’m a pretty progressive guy.
I don’t think farmers should get a free pass on anything that is a problem we can do better with, but this also resonates pretty well with me…
Really proud to be announced as a new associate director on the board of
@DairyNZ
.
The dairy sector is under a lot of pressure, but also has so much opportunity and I think the next 12 months will be a really exciting time to be at that board table.
Cannot wait! 🐮🌄☘️💪
You wanna know what I love about NZ?
Going to my local
@nzyoungfarmers
meeting and having a room full of straight, rural farmers telling me how great it is that Australia voted for
#MarriageEqality
That man in the headlines is not a Sharemilker.
He’s a leech at the bottom of our industry. He should be kicked out. Today.
Real sharemilkers treat their cows like this...
I'm going to call it. I think
@jamespeshaw
is actually a standout Minister. He came into office as enemy number 1 for farmers, being the leader of the Greens. But he has shown a deeper understanding of the issues facing us than any other Minister... 1/2
#agchatnz
When he looks at me like this, I realise that nothing else matters.
Except for maybe getting a proper car seat for the Ute too because Sir Chunkalot has outgrown his capsule 👀
Minister
@DamienOConnorMP
must ban live exports of NZ dairy heifers.
This must be supported by
@DairyNZ
,
@FedFarmers
and others.
There's a decent chance that nearly 6000 kiwi heifers are now at the bottom of the South China Sea. What a tragic way to die.
I don't give a shit what you think about the climate strikes but if you want to specifically call out and shame aspergers then go jump in shark infested waters.
She might be a kid, adults might be giving her way too much direction, but take your aspergers shaming and get trucked.
Our first Fathers Day.
We are so lucky to be on this journey, so lucky to have an incredibly chilled out young man who makes being a dad so easy, and so lucky to have Laura as part of our whanau.
Won’t lie, it has been so good having zero mask requirements in Australia.
Being able to see everyone properly, being able to interact fully and be immersed in conversation with full facial expressions has been great.
Next season I’m moving on from this farm into a ops management role running 2 farms close by to each other, not far from where I am now.
The move has been prompted by needing a better environment for me to be the best partner and best dad to Finn that I can be.
Final result is in:
1,016,153 litres of milk supplied to
@Fonterra
, which translated to 97,636kg of milk solids, approx 470/cow.
An average of 5.57% fat and 4.04% protein.
The average SCC was 71.
Total production was 21% up compared to last season.
Congratulations my girls ❤️❤️
This morning there was a crash resulting in one dead and another critically injured.
This occurred on a terrible stretch of State Highway 1 not far from my place that should have been 4 lane expressway by now.
Except this govt binned the upgrade when first elected.
I’ve been here nearly 2 years and I’ve not once taken a moment to admire the sunrise from the highest point in between the Kaimai Ranges and Maungatautari.
It’s a privilege to lean on a fence post and get this view.
We got all dressed up to go out to dinner but turns out traffic is at a standstill outside our house. We live rurally, over 20km south of Cambridge on State Highway 1 and the traffic was blocking our driveway.
All dressed up with nowhere to go!
@LouiseUpston
@SimeonBrownMP
Signed.
In the words of a classic: I get knocked down, but I get up again, you are never gonna keep me down!
Found a bloody good farm with some bloody good people and we are gonna do some pretty cool things.
Now I need to find a few cows to buy!
@RanaeDietzel
Whatup girl, just checkin stuff out, looking for some snacky-snacks, imma be outta your hair soon, everyone just chill okay, imma just have a look make sure you aren't hoarding all the chocolate okay
I have never suffered from guilt for not being on farm working… until now.
I’m taking 3 days off to be with family and I feel terrible like I never have before.
I’ve been working 80+ hours a week and desperately need a break. So I give myself one and I feel like shit. Why?!
France is leading the world in taking back control of the words we use for our food. They've banned the use of misleading words like vegan 'steak' or 'sausages' with fines of up to €300,000 for those who continue to use the words. AWESOME!
16 weeks into 2024 and a young woman very well known to my family became the 30th Australian woman to be murdered this year.
She was mum to a 6 year old boy.
She was beaten to death by her ex boyfriend who was released on bail after multiple previous assaults on her.
RIP Molly.
FFS. A female friend of mine walks her dog at 5am each morning (in town). She had to cross the street THREE TIMES to avoid a guy who then asked to borrow her phone... in the dark at 5am.
Guys - just fucken don't.
The Grass Ceiling has been smashed!
The first female winner (and mum!) in the 55 year history of the competition of New Zealand Young Farmer of the Year.
Some progress today.
Had our assessment with Oranga Tamariki to assess our suitability for adopting our now 3 and half month old (my partner’s biological) son.
End of next week the court should have a report, then another few months to get a court date…
