‘If Streeting replaced Starmer tomorrow, he would have exactly the same problems by the end of the week: a fixation with process over project … and maybe not by Friday, certainly by Christmas, you would know him by the trail of broken promises.’

Both share a fixation with process over project and have an absence of values, which can only result in a trail of broken promises, says Guardian columnist Zoe Williams

An insane line: “But a supporter of Starmer says tonight that they conducted a recent exercise with investors where they were told that any alternative to Starmer and Rachel Reeves would result in a significant rise in gilt yields, meaning higher government borrowing costs.”

Last week we joined the incredible @CitizensUK and many others outside the Environment department, demanding Thames Water finally be placed in #SpecialAdministration. 💸We're already spending billions of bill payers' money fixing the mess that greedy shareholders created. And

🌹We welcome that the Labour whip has been restored to @RachaelMaskell, @CHinchliffMP, @BrianLeishmanMP and @NeilForPoole. We are clear: only by drawing upon the energy and talents of our whole movement will Labour succeed in transforming the country and taking on Reform.

The same Labour people who spent the past few years colluding to block the selection of democratic socialists and marginalising the ones who slipped through the hyperfactional net are today welcoming Mamdani’s win! almost unbelievable

Just before a new revelation surfaces about Andrew’s links to Epstein, another honour is stripped away. This isn’t justice, it’s crisis management. The monarchy & govt move only when public outrage threatens their own survival. Cynicism dressed up as accountability.

Some thoughts from me for @LabourList on @LucyMPowell’s win on Saturday and the cultural turn it reveals in Labour. Members can see that the experiment in political centralisation pursued by a narrow group at the top risks driving us to electoral ruin. https://t.co/cRn3zEVbiI

🎧 LISTEN: Our National Coordinator, Luke Hurst, and member of Mainstream’s Interim Council, Neal Lawson, were on the airwaves yesterday making the case for a broader Labour Party reconnected with its mainstream. Only then will we transform the country and take on Reform.

We welcome today’s result but the turnout truly does lay out the existential crisis that Labour is facing. Transformative change needs a movement and I hope @LucyMPowell will do everything to rebuild ours.

🌹Mainstream's Interim Council sends its congratulations to @LucyMPowell, whom we endorsed after a ballot of our members. This result must mark a shift toward a broader, bolder politics within Labour - so that we can build a democratic socialist programme to inspire the country.

Progressive/anti-Reform voters will only back Labour to keep Reform out if they’re given positive reasons to do so. Right now they’re not. And this is a short-term, vapid electoral strategy that continues the doom loop. “Back us because we’re not the ‘baddies’…”

Those who will do anything to stop Farage. In Caerphilly they rallied behind Plaid Cymru – and won. In 2029, the data suggests they’ll back Labour.

Tomorrow, we’ll welcome @UKLabour’s new Deputy Leader. Let's be clear: they must be empowered to lead and do the job fully. We need an urgent return to our moral purpose and real change delivered now for our communities. #Labour #NewLeadership

My latest for the New Statesman on why leading with YIMBYism isn't a winning political strategy. As a say while you might govern at time as a YIMBY you campaign as a a communitarian. https://t.co/NqvjJIOBCk

These briefings are a vindication of the alarms we have sounded at @mainstreamlbr. An increasingly insular group at the top of the party are determined to silence dissent and foreclose participation. This failed experiment in centralisation is driving us off an electoral cliff.

Labour source tells @NewStatesman’s @meganekenyon that Lucy Powell won’t be welcome back in “political cabinet” if - as is now widely expected - she wins the deputy leadership. Briefings in this contest are becoming a bit… nasty.
