I would encourage folks to encourage donating when they begin their capital campaign, and I will be fighting for the County of Brant to support this important facility in the coming 2026 budget session.

As a past member of the Lansdowne Children's Centre Foundation board (albeit for a short time) before it's consolidation into the primary Lansdowne Children's Centre board, I am thrilled to see this project moving towards completion.

The folks at the Children's Centre have done amazing work helping children in our community over the past 50 years in their current facility, and I look forward to what they will be able to accomplish in a brand new state of the art centre!.

Today I joined the wonderful folks at @lansdownechildrens as they unveiled the future location of the new Lansdowne Children's Centre facility!

This impactful move by our neighbors and friends I believe highlights the growing importance of intergovernmental relations in these uncertain times.

As the County is the sole municipality directly bordering the City of Brantford, I look forward to continuing to work closely with Deputy Mayor Sicoli in her new role, and with my own role in the County's government relations to better both of our independent municipalities.

I appreciate and empathize with MPP Brady's passion and advocacy for improving public safety, but after reading her column this morning I felt compelled to speak against what would be an extremely erroneous and problematic measure for our Minister of Justice @SeanFraserMP to take.

The laws (and MPP Brady's statement) also invokes very colonial language and ideology ("An Englishman's home is his castle") that I fear within a Canadian context would be used to further perpetuate colonial violence against the indigenous people in Canada.

The "Castle" laws in the US allow for the lawful murder and persecution of racialized people, in particular black Americans, by white Americans. It is also deeply tied to the very problematic gun culture in the US, which would also be a tremendous error to bring into our Country.

The invitation to bring American style "Castle" laws into our country would be a grave mistake, and perpetuate the same type of violence against minority groups, in particular racialized folks, that it does in the US.
