Tragic. We make life so difficult, almost impossible, for so many other species on earth. Heart breaking.
6 months ago, it was just an egg in a nest on a lakeside in Iceland. At 3 months, its parents navigated it over the ice cap & straight out to sea where it completed the 1000-mile migration. Sadly, it won't be doing the return. It's met its end by colliding with a UK powerline 1/3

I share your depression. I find it unfathomable that this is voluntary, but it shows how seriously governments take it. We are so far off the mark - so many governments prioritising economic GROWTH above all else, do not seem to realise how linked this is with our environment.
This is so depressing - surely there is NOTHING more important than having a habitable planet?! Even the fund mentioned is voluntary, I think. Govts will spend to respond to climate linked events, but not properly reduce them. It's a huge, terrible failure

Check out this fascinating new paper from @Borealis_George Eur. nightjar always reliant on habitat and divergence in European pops during last glacial period shows this has long been the case! Important for thinking about how they will adapt to future climate change 🌍🐦🪶🥚.
Excited to see the first paper from my thesis published! We reconstructed European nightjar effective population size over the last ~5 million years! Check it out for a story of ice ages, global warming and potential population divergence! 🌍 🐦
