As if programmers make stuff brittle by choice. After the huge layoff and prioritizing features, quick fixes will take precedence over refactoring, code quality will decrease and in the worst case, the whole “code castle” will decay into chaos and become completely unstable
@pmarca A small API change had massive ramifications. The code stack is extremely brittle for no good reason. Will ultimately need a complete rewrite.

I don't get it: Why did the @usairforce shoot the Chinese balloon and is now collecting the debris instead of taking it down without destroying it? Wouldn't that make it much easier to support their claims that it was a spy balloon?

If your company chooses to not support open-source, at least do your part when filing bug reports and feature requests with tools you use and be kind to the maintainers and remember they owe you nothing, but you use their work. At no charge. 7/

T he financial value this would create for society can’t be overestimated. It’s very easy to get started as donors with platforms like GitHub sponsors, open collective, tide lift. 6/

If every company that uses open-source donated 100$ a year to the projects they depend on - which is really not much - we’d see thousands of highly skilled programmers leaving their job to go from part-time to full-time open-source contributors. 5/

To me, it's just a question of fairness towards the people who provide the software on which you build your company. A lot of critical software is maintained by a few people who literally spend thousands of hours of their free time to keep these projects going. 4/

If you are using open-source software at work (you may not know you do!) and it helps you get your job done faster, I encourage you to talk to your manager and ask them to support these open-source projects financially. 3/

It feels great to have my work recognised by #Google, but here’s what you should know: The contributions of open-source software to the welfare of our society is greatly underestimated by the public, most don’t even know what it is... https://t.co/lRjqdO9AOT 1/
