How on earth does it take over 10 years to plan and build a tram line? We are truly a finished nation.
There has been some disinformation around the West Yorkshire Mass Transit project. The programme has funding, is backed by government, local leaders and the business community. It was, as is usual for a project of this size, subject to independent review. I promised to deliver

In any other sane country Leeds would be able to raise its own money and build their own tram system. Our central government holds us back. We need serious fiscal devolution funded by a land value tax.
And there it is. Embargo is finished. Yorkshire Post press publish first. But I have my suspicions there's quite a lot more to this story than what they're reporting. https://t.co/MOcYqoCT9c

Anglofuturism believers we can simply turn St Pancras into this...

TfL should take over Thameslink and rebrand it into another Elizabeth line. Seems like a free win that could be done from revolutionising existing infrastructure by upgrading the line for more capacity and giving it better aesthetics.

Another, more cost effective idea we could do, is to make the tuition fee repayment start at 30. Or just introduce a graduation tax which is implemented from when you turn 30.

The main reason I think we need to scrap tuition fees is to rebalance the wealth disparities between generations. It makes no sense that the people at the age where they have the least wealth pay the highest rate of marginal tax.
Note that a graduate in late 20s earning £30k pays a marginal rate of 37%: income tax + NI + loan repayment. Someone in late 60s earning £30k pays income tax at 20%. That’s all. And they’ll have a c£12k state pension.

also insane that 11-15 year olds don't get free tube travel but 60 year olds do? the uk actually hates young people

It's so silly that TfL over 60s get free travel on TfL. Why should 60-66 year olds who will still be working (and are relatively higher income) get their tube travel subsised by younger people who are relatively worse off.
i’m gonna be paying near on a tenner a day to commute to work from zone 2 to zone 1 what’s even the point anymore

Does any other country plaster their flag onto trains like this? It feels weird and inauthentic. The natural end point of this politicisation of patriotism is that every single public service has flags all over it. All because Labour thinks that’s how to beat Reform.
Tomorrow the new blue, red & white GBR livery & brand will be launched. The new design will be displayed on digital displays at a number of stations. The DfT says the livery will appear across already publicly owned train operators from spring, with roll-out being gradual. 📷DfT

Truly incredible that they're gonna run their Scottish campaign on an issue that isn't devolved to the scottish parliament. For a party aiming for government they behave a lot like a protest party.
Nearly 1 in 3 schoolchildren in Glasgow do not speak English as their first language. This is not diversity. This is culture smashing. Reform UK will make this a big issue in our campaign. 🏴

Normalising mass killing must not be rewarded. Banning Israel from Eurovision is the least we can do. Ed’s statement doesn’t represent views of our members/supporters. 70,000+ Palestinians have died in the genocide (347 since “ceasefire” called) @LibDems @EdDavey @CalumMillerLD
“There is a ceasefire in Gaza and therefore this action is the wrong thing.” Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey, commenting on calls for countries to boycott Eurovision, using the “pretend ceasefire” to oppose the boycott. His comments came after Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands,

There's a real toxicity problem on the left: previously with the Corbynistas and the Bernie bros. I thought the Greens were beyond that. They used to be a warmer party and I thought Polanski was better than what came before on the left. I may have been wrong.

The nastier side of Zack Polanski has been shown today. After a Labour MP criticised some weird comments he made about immigrants in the care sector. Zack has been reposting tweets all day attacking her for turning her comments off because she got so many rape & death threats.

There’s a lot of low hanging fruit for Labour to pick. Make no mistake that taxes on young working people are a political choice.

Labour finally propose a budget with labour values at its core. The only problem is that their values are more taxes, not more growth.
🚨 SUMMARY: Rachel Reeves’ second Autumn Budget TAX RISES - £26bn - Income tax thresholds frozen until April 2031 (£8bn) - Pension salary sacrifice capped at £2k a year for employee and employer contributions (£4.7bn) - Plan 2 student loan repayment threshold frozen for 3

As a result, out of pocket payments raise 15% of healthcare revenue. If this happened in the UK the government would raise 40 bn in revenue. This figure doesn’t include savings from people having less wasteful appointments. If the left want a Nordic model, let’s start here.
