The "hard" decisions faced while editing a kids' ed video script: - Should they sit in a circle or semi-circle? - Interviewer: on or off camera? - How do we make dialogs - about Mei's 10-hr study day in China to Amar's dream while working two jobs - less stilted? Love my job!

Not carried out on #EFL / #ESL (or any #language learners for that matter), but the results can easily be - and indeed should be - applied to #L2 learning #elt #mfltwitterati
What 10 minutes a week can do Want your students to really learn, not just cram and forget? Mix up topics in quizzes and have them recall from memory. It feels harder — and that's exactly why it works. #RetrievalPractice #Interleaving #EduTwitter

“Today (04–11 May)” – since when does a day last a week? Even this update is just another excuse to plug the app: “Pax are advised to download the Ryanair app” What's the point if both app + site showed flight as scheduled. Then you open check-in, which usually means it’s flying

Gotta admire @Ryanair Opens check-in 24h before, cancels flight 16h before. FR838 today at 10am - cancelled yesterday at 6pm. Too late to cancel hotels, but apparently not enough for Ryanair to offer any compensation. Not even the usual (insulting) +10% voucher.

What were you told in your teacher training that turned out to be a myth? 🧐 We asked ELT teachers and the answers might surprise you! From “4 weeks is enough” to “just follow the coursebook”... here are the myths they've busted along the way. #TeachEnglish #AdvancingLearning

Some more (misrepresented) grammar points that we need to talk about - hopefully next year @BrunoLeys at #IATEFL2025 P.S. If you're wondering about the title, it's a line from a poem by A. Marvell

Frequency of the present cont./progressive in the corpus, which often run counter to the way it's taught in #ELT

"What's the frequency, Kenneth?" - @BrunoLeys starting his #IATEFL2025 session on frequency in grammar teaching with some (ridiculous) examples of the Passive Voice he has found in published #ELT materials. Google them if you don't believe it.

Interestingly she cites Uchida's (2024) study, which showed that LLMs are unreliable when it comes to collocations (see photo in the previous tweet). In his recent article, King of Corpora Mark Davies noted that collocations was one of the things LLMs were particularly good at!

Dr Lee McCallum (@EdinburghUni) at #IATEFL2025 with "Using #LLM for #corpuslinguistics research: promise, disappointment and progression". For me, it's been the first two so far - still waiting for progression.
