📢 Stigma around people in poverty, benefits and welfare is key to understanding why poverty is still deemed acceptable in a country as wealthy as the UK. Read our recent report on stigma below: https://t.co/5SeA5E4lAy

Poverty stigma exacerbates shamefully high rates of poverty in the UK. It can affect health as much as trying to survive on a low income. How do we combat it?

I've interviewed dozens of nurses and doctors. They all tell me the same story: Working above contracted hours due to unsafe staffing and coming home exhausted. They end up leaving and the staffing crisis worsens. This is an insult to those who form the very backbone of our NHS.

“We can’t tackle attendance if we don’t tackle poverty” In a country as wealthy as ours no child or their family should be going without the essentials. No Government wishing to reduce school absence can ignore the role that poverty plays in driving it. https://t.co/r41JUeJGVm.
