Dear Mr. @JeffBezos, can you please sell the @washingtonpost to someone or a group of investors who are interested in the news business? Thank you for your attention to this matter.

So I join the ranks of the WashPost laid off, including so much of the international staff, my Russia-Ukraine department has been gutted and some of the best people fired. What serious paper doesn't cover that conflict?

It seems like only yesterday that nearly every American newspaper, dozens and dozens of them, even in mid-size cities, ran book reviews by local critics. The alt-weeklies (I wrote for many of them) were everywhere and had feisty and boisterous book sections. Time, Newsweek

We are witnessing a murder at The Washington Post. This massacre will be the enduring legacy of Jeff Bezos and Will Lewis and the leadership who stood by. But please read my love letter to the paper that felt like home, and will always be my “we.” ❤️‍🩹 https://t.co/b4zaDlCr3B

Such as a sad day at @washingtonpost. (I, too, was let go a while back as a monthly columnist.) Bezos has destroyed one of the best newspapers of my lifetime. Americans and the world will understand less about the world now when we need to understand more.

Lizzie is so incredibly talented and so unbelievably empathetic. These layoffs are not only devastating for journalists who are losing their livelihoods, they're devastating for an informed public and our shaky democracy.

Many have been shocked by this admission of killing 30,000 by Iranian officials. But plse note - even if accurate - this was not a total figure. It refers to a deathtoll in just TWO DAYS.

30,000 innocent Iranians killed in 2 days - a rate of killing that resembles Babi Yar in Holocaust, says Time: “The only parallel offered by online databases occurred in the Holocaust. On the outskirts of Kyiv on Sept. 29 and 30, 1941, Nazi death squads executed 33,000 Ukrainian

Two of the strongest parts of the @washingtonpost are its international and sports coverage. They have amazing must-read writers. If they are gutted by Bezos's publisher, it would be one of the most self-destructive acts in American journalism in years. Praying it's not true.

I love my job. Every day, I put my life on the line for my job. And I would very much like to keep my job, telling stories from the front lines of a war that is reshaping the world. (I think Washington Post readers would agree int’l coverage is vital.) Please, @JeffBezos.

Waking up without power, heat, or running water. (Again.) But the work here in Kyiv continues. Warming up in the car, writing in pencil — pen ink freezes — by headlamp. Despite how difficult this job can be, I am proud to be a foreign correspondent at The Washington Post.
