I can shoot 350 pigeon over a field of laid peas to simply save the farmer some £ no one barely bats an eye. Suggest magpie control in order to assist as part of a holistic recovery plan for threatened birds and I am a pariah... odd world

No intention to lay blame with owner as I don’t know the ground, the extent of rights, nor the actual time of year, but it’s a great illustration how dogs off the lead can impact wildlife. Imagine this route with 50 dogs doing this each and every day😳⁦ @Gameandwildlife

As an aside he spent 9 months in a POW having been captured at Oosterbek during operation Market Garden. I know what he would make of your t towel.

Tomorrow I return to shoot a boundary day on this estate with three close friends. The bag is largely immaterial. The fact we will chat, let the dogs do their thing, praise a good shot and tease an easy miss makes it all the more enjoyable. I’m a very lucky man. I know that.

Just heard from someone who had a pup I bred back in 2010 he had passed away in his arms. He grew up to be the spit of his sire and from updates I would get proved to be quite some dog. I am ridiculously sad at the news. I guess it’s what you get from responsible breeding.

Saw some really ropey gun/barrel awareness today. Despite not having a role on the shoot took the chap aside and explained the deficiencies.. the gun who was next to him (a guest) noticed I had acted and came up to say thanks. Don’t ever let these things slip unmentioned.

On this day, 75 years ago this chap flew a horsa glider into Holland as part of #OperationMarketGarden This was day two of the op & there4 not much ‘element of surprise’ left. Five days later he was taken POW & taken to stalag luft 7. This was my dad. Miss you. @ArmyAirCorps

I always feel lucky to get out on the moors with the ‘pack’. But the lead up to this years outing was tinged somewhat. You see I fear the years have caught up with this girl and it was in all likelihood going to be her last foray. At nearly 12 she gave it a good go though. ❤️

So.... I have always conditioned my dogs to livestock (amongst other things), they see sheep regularly, they are moderately well trained... but I would never ‘trust’ them... nowt wrong with putting them on a lead.

@_SimonReinhold That’s more birds in one photo than we flushed in 5 drives today. The ‘bag’ was just sufficient for every single person there to take brace home and we saw more biodiversity than we would have done if there wasn’t a shoot on the farm. That’s the right message.
