Importantly, this association was independent of diabetic status. We hypothesize that acute hyperglycemia may be a surrogate marker for ongoing physiologic stress in HF patients, as shown previously in general ICU patients. Thank you @SHummelMD for mentorship on this work!

In a retrospective evaluation of patients admitted to a high-acuity CV ward, we found that hyperglycemia at the time of discharge predicted 90-day MACE following HF admission, after adjusting for several markers of congestion.
