I’m not normally a motivational andy but I think this could really help some people who feel stuck right now and I’m feeling really proud of how far i’ve come. I dropped out of high school in my senior year to play in OWL. When I was done I had no clue what was next for me. (1/5).

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the fact that this is still part of hockey in 2024 spins my head.

I hate when people say weird words in regular conversations. Like why are you saying “plethora” in this casual situation?.

this is coming from someone who was one of the MANY players when asked what I would do after it was always "idk maybe coach or stream full time". I know what it's like committing 100% of your time to improving and trying to win but remember to take time to evaluate your options.

I like talking ab this because it’s extremely common in traditional sports and esports but unlike traditional sports, most esports players aren’t set for life fiscally and will have to find another career after. collegiate doesn’t even mark the end of your pro career also!!.

From a player perspective collegiate is such a great opportunity. I remember when i finished playing pro there was a huge pit of emptiness because i had no clue what was next. With collegiate you can still compete while gaining life skills that will enable you to succeed after.

If I had a dollar for every time a player chose tier 2 over an offer I give them for collegiate then ask 6 months later if we still have a spot available…. If you have the talent, use it to pay for your degree while you can.

Now i’m here: I just started my first full time software engineering position this week and I couldn’t be more happy. It took 7 months from deciding I wanted this to getting my first job offer in a sea of layoffs. From a high school dropout to software engineer (4/5).

I took Harvards CS50 (posted online for free) and something about SWE really stuck with me. Almost the gameified aspect of improvement and problem solving really itched the right spot in my brain. I wanted to all in so I got my GED and got accepted into a swe bootcamp. (3/5).

I tried so many things but nothing felt fulfilling, even if I was good at them (ex: social media management). I was extremely depressed and had no direction forward. I continued trying new things until something stuck. I landed on software engineering. (2/5).
