The biggest mistake I made in the past was searching for "the drill" instead of the system. Grabbing a bunch of random drills from Twitter without understanding them in the context of the greater system is a recipe for inefficiency *at best*. Search for systems, not drills.

Working to efficiently load and transition into downswing has tons of positive implications. Start there and stay connected to its purpose.

Some get out of this position by remaining connected and getting into the side bend we "want" through the swing. The problem is that working out of the "crunch" causes this side bend to happen early and the hitters end up working up to high pitches or away from outside pitches.⬇️

Some hitters get out of this position by disconnecting the bat from the body. As they work out of the side bend they have too little side bend in the opposite direction through rotation and so the bat works away from their body. ⬇️

We see a lot of hitters who have a misunderstanding of what to accomplish in the load phase of the swing. They create the feeling of tension through torso side bend (think crunch) and too much counter rotation. This leads to a couple things that negatively impact bat path: ⬇️

Worth a read. 👇
Force plates are changing how we understand #softball pitching. What used to look like effort, posture, or mechanics now shows up as mismanaged force. One trend is clear across dozens of pitchers: the stride leg is doing too much, and it’s costing them efficiency. 🧵

Should you always correct a “compromised” arm path? @ashtsunshine shows why the answer is sometimes no. In this breakdown, a pitcher’s bent arm path actually helps create elite vertical break and armside run. 👉 Learn more: https://t.co/UXNlhIVQLU

More lessons doesn't always equal more progress. Without a system for measuring improvement, it’s just more reps without direction.

Exit velocity ceilings often reflect force production ceilings. Mechanics can unlock efficiency, but power development is often the real limiter.

Force without efficiency = wasted output. A stronger athlete who leaks energy through poor sequencing won’t see gains in pitch velocity or exit velocity. Connecting S&C metrics with biomechanics closes that gap.

We pulled aggregated college season data and found a low velo, low spin shape creating elite swing and miss. Our instincts said chase more break. The data said that would make it worse. The lesson: use multiple data points to validate what you train and why. Watch the full

Performance isn’t just skill drills. Sleep, nutrition, and stress all alter movement quality and recovery. Tracking wellness alongside mechanics helps athletes progress without burning out.

Athlete ownership is non-negotiable. When athletes understand why they’re training a certain way, they buy in, they adapt faster, and they take those tools with them long after practice ends.

Athlete success isn’t about finding the “perfect drill.” It’s about giving them tools to adapt, measure progress, and take ownership of their growth. That’s what carries into games.

Development is messy. Numbers will plateau, mechanics will feel off. That’s normal. What matters is having a feedback system—data, coaching, athlete input—that points to the next step forward.
