If you're a company and looking to get a loan of say £50-100m first you go to Barclays they say no you go to HSBC...... Until someone says yes. If Barclay's is the only lender then you're fucked! Can a government do that when there's a monopoly? It comes down to $$

It's quite clear the government didn't have this as a priority even though it was one of their top election promises. Seems like the ATB has been dusted, made a few changes and put at as draft for consultation to buy time. It's called learning on the job. Not the No1 Priority?
Asking to continue commenting and assuring that it will be taken into consideration is hostile and defensive? I have specifically said I am not defending and the draft is up for discussions and public scrutiny.

I had to explain this to a layman on another social media platform. He didn't understand so I gave up. Net negative only if everyone who steps into the country as a tourist does what football hooligans do 😎 Tourism might not help a great deal on FX though.
"Tourism is actually net negative/neutral for Sri Lanka's economy." Heard this take last week. Let's do the math. 2025 tourism revenue: $3.2 billion. Even if 50% leaks out (alcohol, other food imports, foreign hotel profits) that's still $1.6 billion staying in Sri Lanka. -
