Great to see the Dept set up an SNA Workforce Development Unit and held SNA Focus groups this week and last. Hopefully all information gathered instigates progressive changes and modernizes the role. A step in the right direction.@SNAsSpeakOut #Respectforsnas

Where any SNAs consulted on their input for the course Supporting the Deployment of SNAs. The NCSE should set up an SNA organisation to consult with their expertise in the field it is after all their job which they seem to have very little say in. #respectforsnas

Finally SNAs get the opportunity to explain why they are worth so much more than 3 D grade passes in the junior cert. The minimum qualification has not been reviewed or changed since 1979.

We don't doubt how great this new hospital will be or how urgently it is needed. We just want to get it right and for it to be publicly owned by the state. We need to #seperatechurchandstate we can't keep going down this road. #MakeNMHOurs

Ratio of SNAs to students needs is always inadequate as criteria for allocation is not a true reflection of role. SNAa are overstretched. Schools need permanent SNAs & ongoing recruitment for best outcomes for students not penny pinching from DES/NCSE. Child First #respectforsnas

Important to set up an SNA organisation that could be included as valuable stakeholders with years of expertise in SEN and best outcomes. Would show #respectforsnas it's common sense that they would need to be included in this update & other reviews @josephamadigan @SNAsSpeakOut
It is also important that we hear from a wide range of stakeholders to help us to facilitate the best possible education and outcomes for children with special needs at all stages of their education.

1979 Qualification of 3Ds in JC for SNAs will not cut it in 2021 DES need to show #Respect4snas & update it in line with other professions & set it at least QQI 6. Position has evolved since then not just care needs it's medical, behaviour, social and accessing education.

Really informative seminar run by Forsa re: SNA training and education. Qualification needs to be updated to reflect the present day role and the diverse additional needs they educate themselves on in order to achieve this . DES need to change this & show #RespectForSNAs

We’re “just a SNA” -when a child has a meltdown, -needs their insulin, -needs OT implemented -needs intimate care needs attended. -needs a scribe for exams -needs a movement or sensory break, -needs help understanding/reading/writing -for whatever we are needed #respectforSNAs

So nice and so true to read this. This is the way we should be viewed as valuable co workers. This is often not the case. Respect should come from the DES down and our contracts updated to reflect what we actually do. @SNAsSpeakOut @SNAAGIre
SNA's are the unsung heroes in schools. They are frequently the difference between children with AEN 'making it' through school or not. Time to treat them as invaluable faculty equals and indispensable colleagues!

Yet again more broken promises. 20 years in my school and still fighting for Department of Education to recognise us for the work we do. What’s been offered here is an insult and shows how little Dept of Ed think of school secretaries and caretakers. #SupportOurSecretaries
