Happy new book year and book month. I've read 5 in 2025 so far which I'll add back in retrospectively. I've started reading 'What does it feel like?' By Sophie Kinsella and I am absolutely breaking my heart at her story. A short novella but her most autobiographical work to date

I could never be a book influencer because half the time I just reread my favorite books and the rest of the time I read books nobody seems to really be talking about.

I know itโs Grinchy, but I just KEEP thinking of the difference it could make to authors, & UK publishing. if all the ยฃยฃ spent on #WorldBookDay costumes went on new books instead, or if each school pooled together all that costume ยฃยฃ, & paid for an author or illustrator visit.

Time for a bit of reality - a thread. Sales in the shop are doing well, but we're reliant on sales on the website to help pay the bills. The website is reliant on social media, particularly twitter. Since September, we've seen a big decline in people seeing our tweets.

A ๐๐๐๐ read for me. The only thing that stopped me was the revelation of Sybil's past which, didn't seem strong enough to warrant the stalking and harassment. I loved Sybil although sometimes the different voices all sounded like Sybil which didn't quite work as a device

A cantankerous woman at times but with such genuine warmth, I was sad to say goodbye to her at the end. I felt like I'd lived a part of her life. I loved the relationship between her and her friend when they would each write a post script of what they were reading.

Book 2. 'The Correspondent' by Virginia Evans. I just loved Sybil by the end of the book. Told through a series of correpondence; emails to companies, letters to friends, an unanswered and unsent letter and other communications we unpick the life of Sybil Van Antwerp.

I liked the blend of historical sources, Archival records woven into the present to tell the story of the Amalfi Curse. Read at the start of January this did make me want to be in sunnier, warmer times on a boat about to jump off and Scuba Dive myself. ๐๐๐

First up for January's stack I had to read (not in the order pictured). 'The Amalfi Curse' by Sarah Penner. I was wary about reviewing this as I had some real issues with the 'Lost Apothecary', and while there were still a couple of errors, (I felt) it was a really good read.
