The narrative surrounding the record definitely gave it a boost and then some (IMO, as it should. Music doesn't exist in a vacuum where song quality purely dictates success) That being said, I have no issues with the hooks personally, but the production is very weak overall
i like the clipse' album a lot, but it isn't perfect and people seem to be acting like it is. a few of the pharrell hooks, in particular, sound like they were taken from the cutting room floor of the despicable me soundtrack sessions
