While in Pearl Harbor she held an open house and my mom took us kids to see her. Quite an event in that Navy town, her decks were mobbed with tourists.

In 1963, Marine pilot Lt. Cliff Judkins bailed out of his burning F-8 Crusader but his parachute failed to open. He hit the ocean after plummeting 15,000 feet—and survived. Despite suffering several broken bones, he returned to flight status six months later. #MarineMonday
