Pleased to share a new report from our team! We explored COVID-19 vaccine uptake and hesitancy in three rural sub-municipalities in Nkwanta South, Ghana. Our findings have a range of implications for policymakers targeting vaccine hesitancy in hard-to-reach, rural communities.

There are opportunities for tailored health promotion and good public health messaging. For maximum impact, information should come from trusted sources - this may differ depending upon the receiving demographic (e.g., our results show the Ghana Health Service is highly trusted).

Among respondents who reported that they were not willing to be vaccinated or were unsure, the most common reasons included not having enough information about the vaccine (50.6%), believing the vaccine to be dangerous (32.1%), and governmental mistrust (21.4%).

Our new report: ‘Examining drivers of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in Ghana’. Vaccine hesitancy ratings (in June) has increased since our last survey in March (18% > 29%). Predictors include specific religious beliefs, opposing political allegiance, gender, and education levels.
