I never say "untouchable" - it's not true and it inspires the critics to work harder. That said, I know a lot of people from across the political spectrum that LOVE ESA because it helps them access the best option for their kid.
If you want to understand the politics of ESAs and school choice policy generally, look no further. Nearly half of Democratic voters want to use these programs while nearly all Independent voters do. That's why these programs are nearly untouchable in a political context.
