I’ve been able to survive manufacturing in the us because I do the whole process, design, 99% in-house manufacturing, direct to consumer. Brand and design have no moat. If you think long term, you need to do everything.

So, build your factory in the USA!.Except. 85% of the actual production machines (presses, CNC mills/lathes, injection molding machines, etc etc) are made in Japan and Germany. so your primary CAPEX to build/scale that new factory just went up between 20% and 24%.

Manufacturing toasters would probably be a pretty chill job. Listen podcasts, music, and push buttons. Pack boxes. Probably better than an Amazon warehouse job.

I build canoes with a machine made to make torpedos. During covid I made face shields 24/7 with my cnc router and a rag tag team of canoe builders.
Because it is far easier to turn a toaster factory into a drone factory than to do the same with an accounting office.
