This sadly means I'll be stepping back from covering Astoria and Long Island City, but the neighborhood will be left in the very capable hands of @nick_garber!

As for why the raccoon might have been trying to sneak through the turnstile in the first place, Sunny Corrao of @nycparks joked: "It's super easy to lose your MetroCard when you don't have pockets." https://t.co/adiAXioQ5U

MTA officials said they removed the raccoon from the station last week, but on Wednesday it was seen trying to wiggle through a turnstile.

I was born & raised in Brooklyn. I'm the daughter of Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants, a Lupus survivor, & an activist. I'm humbled to be the first Muslim woman elected to the New York City Council and the first woman to represent my district. WE DID IT 😭✊🏽 https://t.co/XjuSiPkOxF

In March, the MTA lauded the station's ADA-compliant entrance — which was built by developers — as a "great example" of private-public partnership. Now, the station's elevator is closed for repairs, and the MTA doesn't know exactly when it will reopen. https://t.co/j3vlcKi0mg
