Djokovic gave up $1 million of his prize money for winning Aussi Open so that it can be distributed to young and struggling players that fell out in early rounds, to ease their situation during pandemics.
One of many reasons I support this guy
If Novak wins RG, while Tom Brady is sitting and chatting with his wife, it's should count as two GS titles.
Mike Tyson, Ibrahimovic and Mbappe supporting him from the stands too.
"Nole, Nole" cheering on Chartier...
"Listen to the Serbs", says the Eurosport commentator 😑
"Without a doubt [Novak] has been failed by the ATP and the Players Council over the Wimbledon situation. He'll be denied the chance to defend 5200 points this season. If you think that's fair, then you're not a believer in the values of a sporting chance"
You may write me down in history
With your bitter twisted lies
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise
Did you want to see me broken
Bowed head, lowered eyes?...
You may shoot me with your words
kill me with your hatefulness
But still, like air, I’ll rise
Media widely reported, and people believed, that Novak "lied" on his travel documents.
He didn't. His agent filled the federal form and made an error (but filled the correct info on the state form).
Even Minister conceded that this error made no difference to the grant of visa.
Happy to see that Marko Maksimović "found" Novak and could have a practice with him. This kid is from my childhood club in Doboj, European Champion U16. Future of Serbian tennis 🌞
US Open is sponsored by Moderna vaccine.
US Open Director, Stacey Allaster, is on Board of Directors of Laver Cup, owned by Federer.
US Open and USTA actively refused to apply for exemption for Novak, while allowing unvaccinated Americans to play.
Nazism is back and it is more overt and widespread than ever. An Austrian economist, NATO bombs and US imperialism sympathiser, is calling for a monument in Serbia in memory of Serbian children murdered by NATO bombing to be removed is morally deprived and deranged as can be.
As long as Serb and sadly even some Austria 🇦🇹 politicians from extrem left and right endorse such hateful distortion of facts it is clear Austria and Serb stay the cradle of EUropean Anti Americanism and Anti Nato sentiment
I call to remove this monument immediately
This is pretty cool. In Orthodox Easter tradition, the eggs that breaks the other egg is a winner - both Novak and Andrey are Orthodox Christians and played finals today.
So they did this instead of a normal coin toss to decide who will serve first.
Throughout the events of the past 5 days, ITF, ATP and WTA did not say a word in support of their players. Voráčová was detained and deported retrospectively after having entered the country and played in a tournament - that should be treated as a scandal.
There is a lot of fake clickbait news and incorrect theories going around regarding Novak's test - spreading unconfirmed information just because it is one of many options is irresponsible and agenda-driven.
Thanks to those few journalists that said: let's wait to hear from him.

Navratilova, Connors and many others who are older than Graf would disagree about the length of careers.
Seles who was beating Graf regularly was stabbed on court by Graf's fan - it worked well in terms of weeks as nr one held by Graf.
Should we take that into account too?
It's time to start taking measures rooting out xenophobia in tennis, but it seems this isn't even a topic in the governing bodies.
Xenophobia against Eastern Europeans is casually accepted, allow to be spread by the tennis media and it is no wonder we see it on stadia.
Someone yelled out - back to Russia, this is absolutely embarrassing and disgraceful. I can’t believe this is happening in our country, the person had to be kicked out 😠 😡

The one question Minister must answer is this: Is Djokovic "a risk to the health, safety or good order of the Australian community or a segment of the Australian community", as stated in the immigration act?
@jon_wertheim
@usopen
Incorrect. US Open is obliged to allow access to competition on non-discriminatory basis. US gov. has presidential proclamation that says top athletes fit into "national interest" exemption for entry. US Open wouldn't breach any policy, au contraire. Least they could do is apply

Djokovic doesn’t deserve a penny in prize money from Wimbledon. If we had all made the selfish decision to refuse the Covid vaccine, as he did, there would be no tennis tournaments. He showed his fellow competitors and tennis fans no respect at all.
"Civil rights proponents say one of the Morrison government’s key reasons for deporting Novak Djokovic was weak and could create a precedent to block travellers with undesirable political views who pose no real risk to the community."
There's a new narrative going around on social media among former players and journalists that is very disrespectful of the experiences of 4 players, official & coach that were forced to leave AO, and Peng Shuai.
Expect more of the "AO 2022 is the best GS" agenda to be pushed.
Media & politicians lied and continue to lie. Read affidavit pp 13-22 for what the government claimed is the issue (his mere presence in Aus may incite people to avoid vax & riot) and what they admitted he didn't do (broke any rules on entry or otherwise). No lying in court.
PM Scott Morrison says today Djokovic case was "about someone who sought to come to Aus & not comply with entry rules at our border"
Minister Hawke's reasons to deport had nothing to do with border rules - it solely focussed on alleged risks associated with his anti-vax stance
Badosa retired against Vondrusova due to heat stroke, left the court in a wheelchair.
Medvedev today asked who would be responsible if he died on court.
Tennis needs properly implemented heat policy ASAP & tournaments scheduled at the times of year when temperatures are lower

Novak Djokovic is no anti-vax hero
“There was no evidence before the minister that Djokovic has ever urged others not to be vaccinated.
If anything, his conduct over time reveals a zealous protection of his own privacy rather than any advocacy.”
The most troubling aspect is organisers' refusal to apply for exemption for Novak to enter the US, while at the same time allowing unvaccinated Americans (who travel abroad) to play.
That's discrimination between players that serves no legitimate purpose

These conditions create an unequal playing field - they provide different conditions for the players facing each other. The absolute physical exhaustion from the lack of sleep is a huge factor on the court. The issue needs addressing asap by the ATP.

Caring about tennis means so much more than caring about games played on courts.
I'm not even going to read after this failure of an opening sentence:
"Djokovic’s deportation from Australia for failure to comply with their COVID-19 protocols...".
Do a basic research. Read judgments of the Federal Court. Find out the basic facts. Do better.

Disagree, not just for 2022 events (4 players being deported or forced to leave & Peng's shirts).
In 2014, AO was played on 45C. Ca 8 players fainted or gave up that day. Bottles melted. AO went on as usual. Money was more important than health & safety of players and spectators.
Croatian coach, Filip Serdarušić, received the same exemption as Djokovic, had no trouble entering Australia, but in several days had to leave not to end up in detention.
@PaulFMcNamee
It's the new agenda fitting into old minimisation and hatred agenda. Many more articles like this to come. The facts always wrong and deliberately so. Out of blue, now they are adding "and Russians" to Novak's "Serb supporters" to generate hatred and show how he has no other fans

Fun fact is that Alkaraz is much closer in age to Novak's son than Novak... only 11.5 years between them. He's actually also closer to the age of Novak's 5 year old daughter too.😆
I'm glad he finally reacted. There are thousands of invented and deliberately misinterpreted stories about him every year.

No questions can be answered when the legal dispute is ongoing and it is grossly unfair to spread false info and fake news while the man cannot even speak for himself. New theories mushroom every day, each more irresponsible and reckless than the other.

All Eastern European tennis legends have performed whipping person role for the Western media and fans. Vilified, subject to "hated" narratives, stabbed on the court, subject to cheap jabs by other players, never good enough, etc. Tennis has xenophobia problem nobody talks about.
1. A story about the most violent injury in the history of tennis: A Swedish player Patrik Rosenholm at Futures in Italy threw a racket exactly like Sakkari here, but into a curtain. Behind the curtain was Ilija Vucic, a Serbian player striving for top 100 in doubles.
1 in 4 EFL players don't have intention of getting vaccinated. Nobody demonises them or calls them antivaxxers.
That's reserved for the guy that donated EUR 5 mil. to fight Covid in 3 countries and organised a tournament that offered free vaccination.
Nadal says the only reason Novak achieved the GOAT status and not him, is because Novak is more frustrated than him. Could have definitely phrased it differently, but putting a negative spin on his biggest rival's achieving the sporting greatness.
One sacrifices Grand Slams for his principles , the other sacrifices his body for Grand Slams, which one is more frustrated if he doesn't have the most Grand Slams ?

Gaudenzi stood down as a Director of ATP Media and of ATP Data Innovations. He held these two positions for years in addition to being a Chairman of ATP.

Fascinating pple I met last Dec.
They hunt for living, don't keep any animals, don't do farming, don't know how to count or how old they are. They migrate every 3 months following wildlife, sleep inside caves of baobab, smoke weed 24/7 & die young.
I lived my life the wrong way.
These are the guys that refused to sign a letter in support of low earning players, for fairer distribution of profits. Now they are working against the new player union literally from their yachts, and siding with the ATP because they own tournaments. Don't forget that.
I wish tennis had a journalist or two like this. Governance would look different today.
Quality journalists investigate governing bodies, organisers, expose corruption, conflict of interests, violation of rights, and don't obsess over individual players.

He got out of detention just hours ago. Give him a minute. There is no way he is not going to make a case for refugees in the detention centre once the tournament is over.
Djokovic could have used his experience over the last week to make a global plea for better conditions for migrants and refugees.
Instead, his circle just made a case for why he didn’t deserve *their* experience because he’s Spartacus or Jesus or some other heroic figure. 🙄

"Serb thought he'd been granted exemption to compete by Tennis Australia, only for the decision to be overturned by the Border Force and subsequently upheld in court."
Incorrect. Garbage.
"Thought he'd been granted" - had been granted.
"subsequently upheld in court" - nope.
Explains why some evidence is bogus and why other didn't really evidence anything. There is no evidence in this case at all. That's how broad power the Minister has that his solicitors didn't need to make much effort.
@TraceyLeeHolmes
Stripping points is one thing. Deciding that players cannot retain last years points and will lose them is another thing. Djokovic loses the most - 2000 points as a winner. Cannot defend them. Due to this, he loses nr 1 spot in rankings. And Medvedev becomes world nr 1.

Syria is more in need of help (because of US sanctions that make it impossibly to deliver aid) and watch out for fake aid collectors out there. Find a safe donation platform, or go to your local Syrian church or mosque and try that way. Find local communities, they'll know.
