Healthy eating curricula in schools can cause more harm than good when it comes to eating disorders. Thank you @mallarytenore and @washingtonpost for an eye-opening story.

Chances are you know someone who is quietly suffering from this common yet little-recognized eating disorder. Enormous thanks to my amazing, courageous, generous sources. Spread the word.

New research shows that our assumptions about eating disorders are often wrong — and that many larger-bodied people are starving themselves.

I have a feeling I might get some hate mail about this one... People have strong opinions on dogs! (Including me). Thanks @outsidemagazine and @mollyshirreen for publishing this essay.

Pet adoptions spiked during the pandemic. Now is the time to change outdoor dog culture for the benefit of people, public lands, wildlife, and the dogs themselves.

When I wrote this story, it didn't feel particularly charged since it was distant past. But now that it's out in the world, it feels a little tender. My hope is that it makes its way to those who would enjoy or benefit from reading it...

Outside correspondent Kate Siber learned to reinhabit her body by being outdoors. But she didn’t expect that healing would also bring a new perspective on nature itself.

I wrote an essay about the joy of writing a kids' book in the middle of tremendous challenge—treatment for breast cancer. (Plus, you know, a pandemic too.) Thank you @adventurevida for the opportunity to write this. Now all good on the health front too! https://t.co/eLETPUk35u

"The greater popularity of men’s sports right now is not the result of some natural law, like gravity or the diminishing quality of Radiohead albums. Around the world, women’s sports are underfunded and underpromoted." Great story @helenlewis

This is really wonderful. I recommend the reflection guide!
Social Change Fam: Many of us are trying to figure out our roles right now in the fight to #DefendBlackLives. Often, in moments like this, we want to act quickly. It can also help to reflect and anchor. Here's a way to use the #socialchangemap for today: (1/8)

This essay gives voice to what I have always felt but never been able to articulate. There's something really powerful about naming this so skillfully. Thank you @kileybense

Amid all the terrible news, you gotta grab every little bit of sunshine. @davidwolman and I are thrilled that #AlohaRodeo has been nominated for a #ReadingTheWest Book Award. We'd hugely appreciate it if you took a sec and cast a vote. And please share!

"There’s so much that doesn’t matter; so much I did just two months ago seems ludicrous now... So many silly habits and desires and feuds and consumptions and relationships that aren’t just bandwidth-consuming; they’re bandwidth-stealing..." @DamonYoungVSB

I remember after a 2009 Grand Canyon raft trip an old river guide/van driver actually succeeded in persuading me that NASA had made contact with aliens while we were gone for 19 days on the river. Ha! This story by @cwarzel reminds me of that, except real.
