This is a great reminder from @AmericanGwyn about Joyce's ULYSSES that I had forgotten, and it recalled for me the circumstances John Milton experienced. As he begins writing Paradise Lost, he is completely blind, his second wife & their child have died prematurely, the
Our conditions are far less embarrassing than the ones James Joyce faced in 1914 when he began writing ULYSSES. While Europe became a slaughterhouse, Joyce wrote on. Artists are called to create works of lasting beauty, no matter the conditions. NOT doing so is embarrassing.

I saw this random number trick performed live last night & it was absolutely incredible. So incredible, in fact, that I had to be restrained from fetching the pitchfork & torches that I keep handy in the trunk of my car and leading the peasantry in a good old fashioned witch

My rediscovery of cocktails began on a warm summer afternoon in 2012 following a trip to the British Library with this cocktail, often described as the precursor of the Martini—the Martinez.

For @badly_wired, the biggest, hugest, I-shall-not-be-outdone, and I-keep-her-photo-cello-taped-to-my-vanity-mirror Adele fan in the universe.
Watched a video where the creator put “Someone Like You” by Adele in Locrian mode, and I feel like he put a curse on me ever since.

At London’s prestigious university @ucl, an academic is teaching the blood libel AS FACT. For the ignorant, Jews do not use any gentile blood at Passover - this is a conspiracy theory which started in the UK around 800 years ago. I’m genuinely amazed that today it is being

Brilliant. Weiner says “women & cis women”. So the male women are now the actual women? Chairman right at the end: “things were going so smoothly” - until the uppity woman stood up for her rights. They should just shut up & let entitled men take all our stuff, right?
Had a chance to have a conversation with Senator Weiner. It was an honest one. I am hopeful that this is the first of many conversations we will have regarding women’s safety . Senator Weiner said he likes working with fresh young people and that he is open to ideas. And
