every public sycophant and world loser seems to love AI, majority of artists and other cultural figures with a modicum of intelligence is against it. it’s impossible to say who’s right
Ethan Hawke tells @thattracysmith that he’s “bored by AI,” saying he prefers real human connection. He calls AI a “plagiarizing mechanism” and jokes that while he knows it’s changing the world, he’s in “open rebellion” against it. https://t.co/LZ9EYLReGr

chat gpt tends to use em dashes like a journalist because that's how it's been trained. more common use (parenthetical, longer dependent clause toward the end of a sentence) still reads as human to me. sometimes i use em dashes, colons, and semicolons in a single sentence—for fun
sam kriss singlehandedly changing my approach to em-dashes. i've edited probably 20 out since last week when he pointed out they are a hallmark of AI because they supposedly represent smart writing

favorite first watches of this year: the long day closes, my winnipeg, imitation of life, shoplifters, where is the friend's house?, good morning, running on empty, battle of algiers, female trouble. but my favorite thing i watched was the 1981 brideshead revisited miniseries

funny how often academics in the humanities are portrayed as frivolous ivory tower dandies who write poetry by moonlight and have 6 months off a year when all those people are working like 50 hours a week and the academics with the actual cushy jobs are economists
I get paid to give 90 hours of lecture a year and spend the rest of my time doing whatever I want as long as it publishes. Academia is not a job, it’s a privilege.

Grad student stipend $15,000 Adjunct salary $40,000 Busta Rhymes appearance fee $800,000 Someone who is good at the economy please help me budget this, my university is dying

positive things about my father
Feminists should start having viral movements over things their husbands, dads, boyfriends, and male friends actually did right. What’s the opposite of “I choose the bear?” It would be nice if women had a video or a photo of men doing nice stuff for them saying “I choose the
