July 1 marks the day the UN handed over administration of Somalia Italiana, which was under UN trusteeship-not colonial rule. Unlike British Somaliland, which gained full independence on June 26, 1960. Ironically, in 2025, Somalia’s federal government is still under UN Chapter 7.
