the thing I wanna say about wholesome games is that it’s fucking cool that people are making games that aren’t about violence. there’s a lot of work to be done on that front
I'm not a lawyer, but decided to go over Raw Fury's publishing agreement as I would any contract. Actually very cool that they're being this transparant, that said, a few 🚩 red flags 🚩 you might want to pay attention to.
Dear gamer. We decided that we wanted to give back to the community, and take steps towards changing some stuff. Starting now, Raw Fury’s publishing agreement is available for any and all to read.
Here is the blog post regarding why we decided to do this:
dreamt I played death stranding and it started out with a shot of a hyper detailed 3d peanut butter sandwich floating through space and I was like “wowww that’s brilliant” so here you go:
one of my favorite ways of generating random levels is just spawning a bunch in the same spot, and letting them push eachother out in random directions.
The password is: Don't share. Netflix, Disney+ and other streaming are hoping to discourage people from sharing their passwords without alienating subscribers. Password sharing is estimated to cost them several billion dollars a year in lost revenue.
Imagine if "not separating the art from the artist" worked in both directions, like "granted, Greg's music sucks but I listen to it anyway because he's a nice guy"
if you even remotely like an upcoming indie game on steam, wishlisting it can help small studios climb out of the algorithmic slime pit! your clicks matter.
(devs: feel free to reply with your games)
if you make tech and are either complicating things just to justify your bullshit company, or not thinking about the worst possible social consequences, you shouldn't be allowed to have a computer.
Hey indies, don't sign 50/50 rev share deals with publishers that don't change after break even unless they offer to cook for you for the rest of your life, it's not normal.
Disc Room game feel details thread! I'll add to this throughout the week as more comes to mind. Shoutout to

Some of my favorite games are 1-3 hour experiences, and I'm very interested in working on more shorter games. But "the market" is increasingly stacked against those.

debuting on HBO Max: “The enemy of cinema is the pandemic. I understand that the cinema industry is under tremendous pressure. That I get. The way it happened, I’m still not happy. Frankly, to watch Dune on a TV is like driving a speedboat in a bathtub."
minit is out and I'm kinda shaking with all the love and fanart and messages we are and have been getting... <3 I'll turn this into a shoutout thread a bit later once my brain slows down a bit

If you’re an indie dev negotiating a contract with a publisher, know that everyone after you will have to deal with the shit you let them get away with all over again. You never negotiate just for yourself. If you have leverage, use it.
love it when brands do nazi stuff and think just throwing one employee under the bus in an "apology" fixes the structural problems getting them there in the first place.

now that it's 2021, I can safely spoil that Disc Room will always be Set In The Future. It used to be set in 2089, but just so that our ancestors don't have to deal with the whole "this is the year disc room was set in" drama we add an extra year whenever necessary.
