Esquisse is surprisingly fun to use on iPad! One of my students built his entire AI app using just his iPad, without even an external keyboard, just the virtual keyboard! Reorganizing blocks is even more intuitive with the touch screen, touch and glide, that’s it.

the world is mostly made of misunderstandings, and we need to struggle, every day, to work our way out from that.

I created a completely crazy Memphis Milano inspired design for the Micropatterns web editor… but I added two levels of failsafe in case of visual overdrive!

My experience is 100% the opposite. Android has so many GPU driver bugs. Lots of cheap manufacturers with only 2 years of OS and driver updates. GPU debugging and profiling tools on Android are worse, and don't work on all old devices. I have 20+ Android test phones. .

I debugged by reading the code, like that, without AI, like a psychopath.

Real life UX anti-pattern. Defensive design to "fix" self-inflicted "wrong user behavior". This recent bike lane is bad, so bikes drive on the sidewalk. Next step was *obviously* to put barriers there. Now it's bad for bikes, cars, pedestrians, wheelchair and stroller users😱

Standards last much longer than any product. Yet designers often don’t think about standards as "designed", more like "inherited". Shifting our design perspective toward creating at the standard level, from the product or even platform level, can make design work more impactful.

A4 sheets, barcodes… and the web! Why aren’t designers more focused on designing standards instead of products? Standards (aka protocols, conventions) create huge ecosystems of companies, devices and applications, unlocking incredible value.

"I've been surprised that most of the products out there billing themselves as "AI Agents" are not all that agentic. A lot of them are mostly deterministic code, with LLM steps sprinkled in at just the right points to make the experience truly magical." .

iPhone 2G and iPhone 3GS on top of an iPhone 16. Designing for the early smartphones was very different than designing today, and their success is hard to really capture without experiencing them. UX history gives designers perspective!

This prototype has never been experienced outside Apple since 2005! . Try the Blob Keyboard,  Ken Kocienda's first prototype for the original iPhone keyboard. It’s raw UX, it's unfinished, but it was the **first** to really work!.

This wasn't about polish but proving if accurate typing was even possible, rescuing the project from a UX dead-end. Try it on your phone for the most authentic feel. Which other historical UX prototypes would you love to interact with?. More:

How did the Blob Keyboard worked? .• Tap for middle letter, swipe for side letters.• Not QWERTY, it’s optimized!.• No backspace, caps, or cursor.• Instant “pop” feedback, no true animations. It’s raw, messy. But it was the first to really work!

To go beyond showing the final iPhone 2G in my UX history workshops, I built a simulator of this pivotal prototype. I based it on Kocienda’s book Creative Selection + his direct feedback. Experience how typing on glass was first proven possible! .
