You know what? Let’s talk about this. How authors of Chinese inspired fantasy are often criticized for not using pinyin. Or that names do not sound “authentic” because they are not two syllables as your “typical” Chinese name.
Did you know that…not everyone learns Chinese using pinyin and that common usage of certain phrases / slang / offensive terms are specific to particular communities? And that language continues to evolve over time and that translation often carries double meanings?

oh oh i know this!!! after spending a lot of time reading about guqin notation for SONG.
it utilizes a form of "written notation", which describes how to play the song, explaining the string, plucking technique & note. there's a longform & a short form
I remember once in music theory, I asked my professor what musical notation in other cultures looked like. He asked what I meant, and I was like “well, obviously we standardized this at some point— so what did sheet music look like in non-European countries?” He did not know.

The QRTs are…telling…
Readers, especially white readers, are *not* entitled to footnotes / explanations / direct translations of non-English words that a BIPOC author chooses to use in their books with intentions of not translating.
