I'm immensely proud of the Hydrogen team for shipping a v1 that merchants are using in production. Real, actual money 💰 is flowing through a thing we built from scratch. I'm grateful that leadership gave us space to push the boundaries with new tech.
The Hydrogen and Remix teams gelled and we showed how key parts of Hydrogen worked well at Remix Conf in May. We think bringing Hydrogen and Remix together will provide an exciting future.

Next.js 13 builds on RSC the *right way*. Pumped to see what they learn and how they iterate.
I hope we can revisit RSC again someday in Hydrogen apps; modularity of server components will be key for third-party app adoption!

We (Hydrogen) have been talking a ton about this pattern internally and what it means for data fetching in React 18+ apps, including:
➡️ fetch data as close as possible to components
➡️ move away from "route-based" data loading
Did you notice in the React 18 Keynote this hook was called useData instead of useQuery (or something similar)? It wasn't an accident. Suspense lets us write data-fetching (or, data-reading) components using synchronous code. These components are no longer concerned with Loading.

Hydrogen's `Link` prefetching behavior was heavily-inspired by

: . It's clever: embed `link` tags as children of `a` rather than in `head` or in-mem like Next.js.

Hydrogen v1 sorely lacks route-level data-loading. RSC unlocks component-level data fetching, which is great in a lot of instances — but devs should be able to explicitly fetch *before* render. Hydrogen made it too hard to do that.

Hydrogen used an early version of server components, but you'll notice all of these things ^ could have been solved by better design. Yes, RSC has been painful for devs to learn and migrate toward. But I'm still bullish on the pattern.
